Everyone has seen the downturn in PC spending coming for years. But the "holy crap!" fear that PCs are going away is absurd. Intel's revenues remain strong with declining PC revenue offset by servers and emerging IoT. Employee reductions could have been handled with gradual attrition and reassignments over time, starting years ago, rather than this hysterical action by the CEO. Add to that the fact that Intel is now cutting their top-level employees; all of the "poor performers" have been cut already. Intel spends money hiring and training their talent, and now their going to lose that talent by firing 12,000? Ridiculous. Intel employees are calling these actions "malicious", "brutal", "ruthless", "poorly planned." But that's fine with BK. If I was a new graduate considering employment options, now or in the future, I would avoid Intel like the plague. Incompetence and malicious indifference are not the hallmarks of a good CEO.

I am sad. Wrecked. I may not lose my job, but many friends, incredibly hard-working, devoted, sharp, driven, high-quality employees will lose their jobs because of an incompetent and malicious CEO. In small markets like Hillsboro, OR, such large layoffs can be devastating because we have few options. The takeaway? Don't trust BK and don't trust Intel again. Work hard, work 60 hour weeks, work feverishly to meet deadlines, get great reviews, and get fired.
