Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Thanks good I left Intel already

Got IR this year. Had feeling that manager is picking up on every minor thing for the last few months (now i know it was done to justify IR and fill their quota), although everybody including me were working their as*es off. Did ODI just for the hack of it, didn't help obviously. Had to go to doctors because of sleep deprivation few times this year, they recommended to change jobs. So when got IR and impossible CAP, didn't think long and took buy off. Guess this is better than being laid off. No so great place to work after all.

I would definitely not take this kind of cap, if all the rest items are the same kind crazy. Didn't have chance to learn about cap details before. Now i know what to do.

To the last comment: In my experience and few folks that i know that is not true. In my case there was something i was responsible for. I said many times we needed to increase inventory of it, or we are going to have delays like happened already, all was either ignored or denied due to cost savings. Apparently delays were OK. Then, suddenly, my focal cited me for those delays. CAP says one more delay and you're fired. Probation period is 60 days. Time needed to get inventory to recommended levels if approved: ~30 days. In those thirty days probability of delay happening is almost 90% because of increased monitor and PM frequency. And that was one of around ten bullets in the cap, all similar. Would you take this CAP?

Who said a CAP is supposed to be easy? Clearly the same ol' work level that earned the IR isn't going to clear it.

A guy from a neighboring module got problems with mental health as he said due to sleep problems. Was laid off in last year layoffs. Male, white, but very young, not even in his thirties. Everybody in his group was saying he was an excellent worker. Don't know anything about his focal or ssl.

Long hours starting to get to me too, thinking about taking VSP if offered.

Same here. Long hours, medical leave due to exhaustion, IR last year. Took me a while to find new job, at least hours are OK and pay is comparable.

What's OWG?

just another reason the OWG have to go. They are train wrecks and will drive the group health plan rates through the roof. Got to get rid of the whole cohort now before they start keeling over. The ride is spent, jump off the elevator before it hits the ground.

Similar story.

On restriction medically in 2014. Got successful/ssl3 at end of year. Fair enough.

On leave (pregnancy/bonding) in 2015 for 18 weeks. Came back with restrictions. Tried to work too much as part of re-engaging. Ended up sick and exhausted. In Dec, had multiple emergency room and urgent care visits.

Doctor push for emergency medical leave in early 2016, right in the middle of focal (horrible timing). Had to walk away from a few visible projects while on leave which likely made things very challenging for my boss.

Ended up as a Successful/ssl4 in this most recent focal. He still hasn't technically actually delivered my review (just called me on the phone to list everything I've done wrong but will not put it in writing.)

In the end, i will likely be laid off.

I gave 2 decades to this place. Worked insane hours under lots of pressure. Made sacrifices in my personal life. Probably jeopardized my health for my job.

I am feeling it was not worth it.

If, by some miracle, I survive the ax this time, I will be looking to get out. It's time to go.

Messing with regular sleep will kill you, some faster than others. Absolutely do not sleep irregular hours.

Had similar experience two years ago. Worked too much, too many sleepless nights. Got health problems and had to go to medical leave for two months. First day on job after that i had meeting with manager where he gave me IR.

I said screw that my health is more important. Took buy out, was pretty decent after five years with Intel.

How about below expectations? Buy out offer given for this? I am sure I am next in the list ... Preparing myself

Yes, with IR you are given two options: take CAP or take buy out. If you take buy out, no rehire, if you take and fail CAP, immediate termination and no rehire. CAP often formulated in such a way that even a minor miss that otherwise would not be even frown upon would result in your immediate termination.

So when one is given IR .. Is he given the buyout offer as well? Is it standard?

I might be cut this time but I can find my way back later. Looks like rehire is possible in the future.

guys, if some one doesn't like you within your reporting chain, Intel will try to get rid of you. Best way i suggest is you all must look for right lawyers ( check -google previous successful law suits on wrongful termination) f*^& g Intel and I can assure you will get a big pay check. There are lot blough (blow) jobs out at Intel who are the reason for downfall for this compnay.

Of course i earned it, as well as decreased health and medical bills. No doubt about that.

Well if you successfully complete CAP then IR still stays. If you fail CAP, you're fired. Often they give very tough to complete CAPs conditions in which may not even depend on you, with only one goal: get rid of you.

I did the same thing last year, was given CAP which I successfully completed, manager was OK and told I did do good job on CAP but still given IR as CAP is equivalent to IR..:(
