It's not FICA - that's federal income tax. If you work for smaller companies you get charged about $1/paycheck, I never saw it here so I guess SWN was picking up all of the cost themselves. It's insurance and SW?N had a policy, so the other poster is correct; use it since SWN gets charged back and pays a higher premium for having used it on the 40%.

Unemployment benefits IS your money.

Your first obligation after losing your job is to get money coming back into the household so you can focus more on surviving until you find your next opportunity.

You've been paying into the system as payroll deductions (I think its FICA). Don't ever believe you aren't entitled. It is your money and a benefit you are entitled to. This is the exact purpose its designed for.

That is why unemployment insurance is paid for by the company is for times like this. Take it and believe it is necessary!

Never, ever be too prideful to take unemployment. You've spent enough of your hard earned money paying taxes to ever need to feel guilty or shameful about taking unemployment. Consider it an extra tax break!

I take it you're relatively new to this. File- it's not much, but it will help you stretch things out until you can find something. Everyone in business is used to seeing some unemployment so it's not the stigma it used to be.

Is anyone else questioning themselves if they should take unemployment or not? Had family that was laid off when i was a kid, but their refused... made for some rough times, but it worked out in the end. Not sure why they refused.. too stubborn, too prideful? I am just wondering if i missed something. I think we should get what we can, because it might be many months till another paycheck.
