Thread regarding GE Oil & Gas layoffs

20% across the board @ NHR / High Drill and FULL SHUTDOWN of JAC (Highlife Dr) Subsea Repair Shop

Got the ax in a hushed layoff last Spring (May '15). Got word last night from FB friends on the inside at NHR that all O&G sites are slashing 20% of staff in EACH department and it happened on Thursday morning. I used to work at Highlife location got a confirmation that 8 of 24 staff left there were let go Thursday morning and that the facility itself (I helped move entire operation from a previous location 3 yrs ago to new one along with acquisition of alot of brand new weldng equipment as well as set of rail cars for pipe) is being shutdown entirely in 60 days or by end of May (this location was on a 10 yr lease and cost GE $14k monthly over previous lease of just $3k monthly). This is a subsea repair facility that rebuilds controls and riser pipe. All of that along with the remaining rental tools are moving to NHR. Our sister site, which was previously the Broussard facility has already shut down and its rental tools also moving to NHR. A great many people I know at both the Highlife facility as well as NHR are loosing their jobs as we speak. I am with a chemical company now in the Houston / Pasadena area (took 5 months to land the position w/ 15% pay increase and a more liberal work environment....no performance tools to place you on a PIP and crazy things like that thankfully) but much happier for it as O&G is taking a beating here in Houston.

You know, I have a friend that was fired from GE in December and I was layoff in September and we both work at differnt places and are much happier. GE has a very very interesting way of treating minorities. When we talked to GE Management, it like they were standing there asleep.
