Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

ESP Jobs/candidates for each functions- Petroleum Engg., Drilling, Earth Sciences, IT, etc. - anybody knows?

If anybody has any information on #Jobs/#Candidates for each functions, we will have an idea how competitive this ESP is going to be?

@1ebc The 2000 or so positions are just the exempt positions. There are also an unknown number of non-exempt and represented O&M that are not technically part of this ESP but will still be eliminated at the same event. So...there are more.

Thanks 1xbv. Any similar stats for other functions from others? I heard there are about 250 and 275 jobs for Earth Science and Petroleum Engg, respectively. Any knowledge of how many in-scope for each of them?

The information I heard for Facilities Engineering is 1,100 FE people and 800 FE jobs, so that's a decrease of about 300 but that 300 includes those who select EOI.

4000 jobs will be cut in 2016....No big surprise.

The March 8th Security analyst meeting of Watson is on Chevron website:

http://investor.chevron.com/phoenix.zhtml?c=130102&p=irol-EventDetails&EventId=5203501

Go to the very bottom of the page and download the pdf file "2016 Security Analyst Meeting Transcript"

Page 4 on the bottom:

"Savings are coming from procurement actions to get better pricing, efficiency improvements from work process reviews and payroll reductions as we size the organization for the amount of work we expect to have. Our Company payroll was down 3,000 in 2015 and we expect another 4,000 reductions in 2016. As we implement organizational change, we're taking care to preserve capability that will be needed in future years."

If this ESP is reducing about 2000 jobs, we will likely have another layoff before December where another 2000 jobs will be lost. That will then add up to the 4000 jobs lost for 2016 that we were earlier told.

@1bmr, all you provided was a simple calculation. Your real chances of success in getting a job is correlated to how well someone making the selection knows or likes you. That's the only calculation anyone needs to understand.

Thanks @1oki- so far you provide the most substantive numbers. If your estimates are correct, we will see 40% of in-scope staff (2000 out of 5000) will be left standing. That gives you an idea about your chance of success.

When all of this started CNAEP got a letter indicating that we would take the majority of the layoffs. This was a quote. Go back and read it.......it's 4,000.

Some misleading numbers thrown out. 4000 is the target headcount reduction for this year. Not all that 4000 will be removed at this ESP. There may be other ROMs in other BUs. For example, ASBU is having their own ROM event in two months, not tied with this ESP. Based on the count of jobs in the CTO and the number of inscope people, there are ~5000 people total applying for ~3000 positions in this 1H16 ESP. The ESP team may change their mind and reduce the number of positions, or there will be more later in the year.

Good lord. They said 4,000 will be cut in 2016. 3,000 cut in 2015.

Read the transcript.

from the analyst meeting yesterday, CVX upstream with cut 10-12% headcounts in 2016. How much will be that?

Rough overall math. Looks like close to 7000 applying for 3000 jobs. That's assuming 3000 is 60 percent of the remaining jobs after 4000 positions closed.

I wouldn't count on being placed anywhere outside of your function. Functional leaders will want to keep the best talent they have. They know people will flee to their old jobs once oil goes back up, which will leave them in a difficult position trying to find people.

Oh and PEs are going to be placed in other roles. You'll lose the petrotech uplift but will still have a job. PEs can do a lot of the FE and Cost Engineering jobs, and it makes sense to retain petrotech talent.

It's 4k employees. This was disclosed at analyst day. The number may change but 4K is the current number. Chevron wouldn't lie to investors. If you listened, which you should have, you'll notice that we are still making decisions based on higher full lifecycle oil prices. If prices don't recover there will be additional cuts.

If 60% turns out to be the actual number of employees being cut, then it tells you how bad things are at Chevron.

For PEs, number of candidates are 700 competing for 247 positions. 60 percent will have to be laid off. Thank you Chevron!
