Thread regarding Anadarko Petroleum Corp. layoffs

Proud to have worked for APC.

I retired from APC last year and I am very honored to have worked 20+ years for the same company. APC fed my family, paid my mortgages and put my child through college. People should direct their anger at the Washington elites that don't give a darn about the energy industry and all of the people hired by them. You better think about the person you vote for this time. The past 7+ years have been a nightmare for the energy business. Jobs will come back when we get a real, conservative Leader in Washington. APC held on as long as they could and everyone should be grateful for that.

There might be some truths to that accusation - Saudi Arabia has long received favorable treatment with regards to their US Treasury holdings... maybe it's time for us to stop playing nice if they are not.

Jesus. Some people would politicize a ham sandwich.

If you're looking to vent your anger, start with the Saudis who are determined to drive the US domestic energy industry into the ground to gain market share.

To n19- I suggest that it was you and not Anadarko who provided for your family. You created value for them as part of a team. They paid you and kept the excess as profit for the shareholders. It was not charity. You could have earned a living somewhere else.

Anadarko might be a great place to work but that has no meaning independent of an employee who is on the receiving end of those benefits. Think about it. Co x could be an even better place to work but if it only has 3 employees, doesn't hire you and has no openings, what does that mean to an outsider? Nothing.

And Anadarko might continue to be the same great place of employment but once they push you out the door, it doesn't matter if they are the same, better or worse. At least to YOU. Once you are let go its relative status as a great place to work is meaningless. Your fond memories of Anadarko will not feed your family in the future. You will. And your savings will but you EARNED that money.

After you leave you can only thank Anadarko for creating the circumstances that gave rise to your immediate circumstances. Or curse them as the case may be.

All the Joe Sixpacks, whose wages have shrunk from $40 an hour with health insurance and a pension to $7.25 an hour and nothing in the past 30 years are probably not crying themselves to sleep that you can't buy a new Lotus or BMW with your bonus anymore. Get real.

Are you an idiot? the past 7 years have seen some of the highest rates and activity of oil and gas drilling in decades with the highest rates of employment since the bubble in 2006-2007... Washington had nothing to do with anything that has happened.. most including recently where producers have ramped up drilling activity at breakneck speed to create over production.. thankfully the industry welcomes your retirement as you are in tunnel vision from the lack of separating your social views from that of rationalism... Heck, even democratic initiatives to decrease CO2 emissions through limiting use of coal has GREATLY benefited natural gas drillers.. get off your social value high horse and come down to reality.

No reason to be sarcastic. The Dems are all for the "global warming" and "climate change" agenda. They found another way to line their pockets with "Green Energy" companies money.......All a Hoax. Period.

I'm guessing voting for higher gas prices will be widely supported in our democratic system. After all, the oil business is probably the most trusted and admired industry by the common man.
