Thread regarding IBM layoffs

I think I am next in the layoff line

Any tips for early warning signs, how to prepare, things to do, things to avoid. Thank you.

Start preparing for the inevitable..it will happen to you. See a financial advisor, refinance a mortgage, budget etc, if you don't have an emergency fund...start one asap! It is only a matter of time. As the other post suggested, start looking for positions with other companies. If you are a reg you have seen IBM take away benefit after benefit. The same can be said for each 'resource action' which is a sanitized more palatable way of saying layoff. I wish I had been laid off before last week when there was at the very least some severance Now it's just going into Ginni's deep pockets as she continues to run this once great company into the ground.

There was a good checklist or something at the old IBM Alliance website. Maybe that's still there, or Lee Conrad can post it to his new watchingibm.com website or facebook page.

I received no warnings at all about my layoff. No preliminary 1 on 1 with my manager about my performance (if that's the reason, which supposedly it isn't), no rumors about a round of layoffs, no news about others getting laid off, nothing. The day I got axed was just another day in the office, with nothing out of the ordinary, nothing to be worried about.

One thing I think you can do is, if you're truly worried about getting laid off, start looking into positions with other companies. Do some interviews, and see if you fit the bill anywhere that looks promising. If you do this regularly, you'll always be at your A game. And if you do end up getting laid off, you have leads into other companies.
