It has degraded to Mindless Management by Spreadsheet. (soon to be from a call center in India, what to do!!) Line up all the high dollar MBAs and they all do the same thing. Like earlier comment, was a field grunt, released and called back multiple times, benefits for family were an important part of a pay package. Got to the point many moons ago where every month, after paycheck hit bank, would take a deep breath and decide whether or not to do this one more month. Having more accountants than technical support staff is rather indicative of less than honest on-goings.
Worked for SLB 30 plus years as a field engineer. Was laid off 3 times due to work shortages. Came back time after time as it paid well and offered benefits ( family, you know). I was extremely lucky in that I earned a retirement pension. That is not offered anymore. I would advise a young person today to follow the money. There is no allegiance between employers and employees, get over it. Go for the gold and always have a back up plan.
You will need to find a small private company to work for one day.
You can show your ability and where hard work and dedication means something to the owners.
