Thread regarding Education Management Corporation layoffs

I believe EDMC just told us which schools they plan to keep and which they plan to close.

Has EDMC made a very quiet statement about which schools they plan to close? Take a look at the list of exemplary Academic Directors on the Art Institute website and I think we may have a snapshot of those schools EDMC will keep even after the next round of closures. I say this because within the list of directors, there are repeat references to a pretty short list of certain schools.

Jodie Lawrence is a Dean at a closing school (Tinley Park). She likes to hide away in her office and ignore the students.

They still show career stats that are 3 years old.

I wish I could agree. If the campus I came from is any indication, the sad fact is that there are no longer enough faculty to adequately fill the positions and the adjuncts they have don't have incentive enough to care any more than they have to. That makes this page on the AI website a crime. I'm looking into it now but I fear we're looking at a case of Fraud.

Anyway, thanks to all. What started out as a misconception has turned into a matter for law enforcement. And believe me when I tell you that I am well and truly heart sick about it all.

Oh, there's no question it's appalling. I just meant that this isn't an indication of which additional campuses may potentially be set to teachout. But that issue aside, it's absolutely disgusting to be promoting your school using people who have left sometimes years before - and certainly many of whom left because they became disgusted with the place.

Let me note that many of the directors (and faculty) who remain still do great work and genuinely do good by their students. It's just becoming exponentially more difficult for them to do so, and the conditions only become uglier/stranger/sadder.

Nope, not good enough. Incompetence is no excuse. A prospective student coming across this page would take it at face value and act accordingly.

Besides, I suspect there's more to it. I notified HR for almost a year after I was riffed to please disassociate my name from the Art Institute. They finally did it but only after I practically threatened legal action if they didn't. They need at least the appearance of credentialed faculty to sell the place. No, I'm not buying this "Aw shucks, we didn't know" explanation. Given my own story, I suspect t goes deeper than that.

Anyone else have the same experience?

What's the old line, never ascribe to conspiracy what can be explained by incompetence.

There's poor connection and communication between departments throughout EDMC. Marketing/web would be among the last to be notified about any upcoming changes, and there's certainly no process in place to notify them when a director leaves. This page was created a few years ago and just hasn't been updated since.

C'mon guys, the thread went dead.

I just saw a another teach-out school on another instructors bio. If that's the case, we're looking at good old fashioned fraud. They're using faculty who aren't there anymore to lure in prospective students. Geez, this thing stinks. No, I take that back. It reeks. Isn't this illegal?

I saw one school in the list that was a teach-out. Any others?

There are directors on there who are from schools being taught out.

This list is very old, I think more than 2 years old. I also saw one director who subsequently moved to another position within the company before later leaving.

I expect many employees have gone. I expect many more will. I'm looking at the schools they represent and I have a feeling most will be retained after the next bloodletting. As for relevance, I think you're wrong, dead wrong.

We'll see in June.

I counted 9 that I know personally do not work at edmc anymore. One for example has been gone nearly 2 years. They included one from a teach out school as well. This was part of an old advertising campaign. Not relevant.

Nevertheless, the list of schools remains unchanged. EDMC has always been very slow to update individual employee profiles. Believe me, I know.

Perhaps but this list is old. One I know for a fact is no longer working (got a much better job at a nationally respected school).

Good... Now we know who to stalk and blame for the continuation of fraud.
