Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Yes internal propaganda is an insidious thing - because you're in the group you want to believe it not only because it's about your supposedly rosy future but also to fit into the group! I think most people are unaware of the mental gyrations they go through to "fit in". For example pick any religion (you don't believe) and read their text literally vs the "apologetics" members use to defend it. Intel propaganda read literally would be just as laughable.

Amazing that there are still some people in the company that still thinks everything's okay. Must have all been brainwashed by the internal propaganda.

Stable is possible >5yrs. Over the long run there is no such thing as stable. Microsoft is being disrupted too - now giving away it's formerly $100/ea operating system in the hopes of retaining control and slowing disruption. Intel hasn't been a growth company since 2000. If it's just getting around to accepting that 16 years later, well then let's just say we've got a larger "intellectual honesty" problem to deal with.

Intel may shrink but as long as enough people use Microsoft products, it will survive. Intel needs to accept the fact that it is no longer a growth company. Nothing wrong with being a stable, cash generating machine.

@xvm In case you forgot (or more likely never knew), we live under capitalism in the US. It is a system that is volatile by nature. If you look at the original 11 Dow companies of 120 years ago there is only 1 that is still a large viable company: GE. All the others were broken up and bought out or went bankrupt many years ago. Intel is not impervious from decline as we have seen, nor is it immune from bankruptcy. As a sidenote, of the 10 companies that failed to varying degrees most of them were single commodity businesses, like Intel. GE diversified and thus protected itself from economic shocks and technology disruption. Intel has no diversification or protection from ARM and is in the process of a tech disruption.

Incase you forgot. Intel is a 50 billion dollar a year company. It will most likely never go away. It may shrink, but our fab process is what keeps us number one, not so much our designs anymore.

Agree 99%. I just think it will take 10-15 years to crash/burn, because of the lead Intel still has - but that's almost worse. Why be stuck in a company where every year there are layoffs and the only questions are... Is the layoff medium or large this year? Have I outpaced my colleagues enough AND gotten the right political points to ensure my employment for another year? THAT IS HELL. You are a frog in a pot and the water has been getting warmer for quite some time. Will you jump out?
