Glorified titles seem to be the new trend in the industry to keep people happy with the same pay.

"We check this site more than you know, in coordination with HR." - Then why do people at your paygrade still fail miserably to understand?

Hey 8cde, I understand your lack of skills. Especially when you think an EVP must have a jam-packed schedule and shouldn't care about organizational gossip. We check this site more than you know, in coordination with HR. Once again, enjoy another week of mediocrity.

5yft - You are right. I am not a director. I am EVP. Not even 2 years from leaving TGT. Go enjoy your mediocrity.

6nut: I think it's pretty safe to say that the scope of what's happened at TGT HQ goes a little beyond "crushing pay bands."

What started out as a simplification effort to crush the PG scale down from +30 different pay bands to just ten has created GRADE INFLATION once again rewarding the largely millennial aged talent pool with titles beyond their actual worth. Group Managers are now Directors and former Directors are Senior Directors. It's a joke since they mostly have the actual skills of a floor supervisor in a fast food restaurant :p

Obviously not everyone is a Director. Clearly your not, thank god!

Just on how the word "Consultant" became abused and now everyone can be a consultant with a year of experience, everyone is now a "Director". Kinda gives everyone a sense of status to mediocre people and removes the prestige to the real directors who are smart, make decisions and provide team leadership to accomplish real goals and deliver real value. Now everyone is a director. How cool. Reminds me when someone dared to say in a meeting that "everyone is a leader". Sure. Let's make everyone "EVP". Pure organizational mediocrity.

2cyc: Look, that is just as false as the 500 new directors comment. LMG, KMG, DMG weren't concepts, they were classifications of employment that all had very specific benefits related to each classification - different bonus structures for each, diff life insurance etc. Those classifications are gone, many of the benefits are gone and some (like parking) have been expanded and extended to other pay grades. It is also False that "they just have the titles of Director now." Many do not, no LMG positions in our pyramid and not all KMG's in our pyramid were changed to Directors. Let's try and keep this as real as possible, ok? There's enough mis-information out there without creating more.

The 'concept' of LMG/KMG no longer exists, but the people are still there. They just have a title of Director now

KMG no longer exists.....

I think what the OP was trying to say was that since the KMG are now directors , we have many new directors that didn't exist couple of weeks ago

2pmy: got it! So just complete made up BS. Your "500 new Directors" comment is more of an expression then reality.

They are hiring a new director from Tesco or relocate someone from Bangalore who will lead the strategic initiative of collating list of 500 directors. It will be a game changer for Target.

1tri: You do know that this whole GTKY thing was mostly a TTS phenomenon. The rest of us had no time for trivial as grabbing.

The GTKY crowd really loves their new titles. Don't tick them off or you'll have even more statuses.

You counted the 500 new directors? Why not say 5000 or 10000? Things get a little confusing when you are working with a vendor and the poor gal is dealing with a: business analyst, manager, Sr. manager, group manager, Sr group manager, buyer, Sr buyer etc etc.... NO other merchants have that many layers or strange bs titles. Simplify the titles then weed out the poor performers. Shazam!
