Thread regarding Noble Energy Inc. layoffs

The Layoff.com

Of all of different companies who are part of "Layoff.com" website there NO company site more contentious than the Noble Energy posts. Gives some indication of amount of disgust and distrust of Noble's management. How poorly people were treated over the past 18 months. How poorly this company was and is managed.

Thanks for the last two comments. I understand your thinking a little better.

Amen to what 8fme said. The tone on this site is entirely due to the "Executives" mismanagement. They've got no clue how to run an oil company. They were able to fake it in a rising market, but the down turn exposed their incompetence. Empty and high priced office buildings, high priced shale acquisitions and high risk, high cost and low "real" expected return exploration programs were all management decisions and not the fault of the staff. Like the self righteous and greedy scammers that they are the execs happily take pay raises for wrecking the company and send out their lackeys to defend their privilege to do so. Shame of the board for letting them get away with it.

To "And of course all comments": I don't think anyone posting here wants the company's demise or more employees and families to be hurt, but what I see in this forum is frustration for the company's management being shortsighted,, unwise, getting us in this situation, all while basking in their own big salaries and Super Bowl tickets. All of this has and is hurting regular employees and families. If there is some anger, I think it may be justified and frankly, this is a less destructive way of expressing that feeling. This frustration, fear, and disdain is understandable. It is a plea for management to fix itself. The fact that it has been a year since the April layoff and no top management or salaries have been cut but rather Stover got a huge raise which would have saved many jobs is absolutely condemnable and further proof that they have no intention of implementing constructive changes. If he is not ashamed, he and the Board and all top management should be. Every last one of them, including Sr. Managers. Cut your salaries, fire those who got us in this mess, make changes, and hire some good people back. Show us who are left that you know what you are doing. We have no confidence in you as leaders or even as good people. And we are tired of living in fear.

$9 billon of debt. Debt service of $500 million per year. This company will be working for its creditors for the foreseeable future. Management has put them in the sorry predicament.

Had the company layed off the same or greater percentage of management at all levels as they did regular staff, there would not be this much disgust and distrust. Management is the main factor in the company's state of affairs. It is not just outside factors. They hired and promoted unwisely, give too much money to top management who made and continue to make very bad decisions. And a lot of management and supervisors do not really work. Everyone knows there will be severe downturns in this industry. You plan for it or you don't weather downturns well if at all. Plus it is just stupid to pay too much for properties or to deliberately run bad economic forecasts. The rank and file are being punished for the sins of management.

It is what it is. Can't sop people from making heartfelt comments. You make it seem like they are purposely trying to sabotage Noble. I'd say they are getting what they deserve.

And of course all comments must be true... There are actually some Noble employees who like their jobs, and their managers and co-workers, and would like for the company to succeed. Your desire for the company to go down in flames will hurt the regular people a lot more than it will hurt the big guys.

The original poster IS correct. This Noble Energy site is the most contentious and negative of any other. I mean I haven't really checked every single one... but of the many I have looked... at this is by far the worst. Mostly critical of the management. My company has also had layoffs but the comments are nothing like what is on this Noble site.

I'm buying this. My new employer has a workforce 10 times the size of Noble Energy yet has way less activity in general on layoff.com and is nowhere near as negative.

Noble does not value anyone and if the people under Dave could oust him, they would to get the money and bonuses he is making. Mark my word, he will get a huge bonus no matter what we get for the Israeli field. And they will be gone before they rip the last hole in the ship. It will sink. There is no one at the helm who knows a thing about running an energy company or we would have performed better all along. Just a bunch of cronies padding their wallets and living high on ego.

To the trolls on here that are part of the Noble propaganda team, go back and tell Susan what a good dog you have been, then piss off. I for one am still at Noble. I know more than a few that were let go in both rounds of layoffs. The distain is not just for Noble management but how the company has lost it's roots since Susan and GAP came along. Unless you have worked for another, bigger company you trolls cannot see the blunders Noble has and continues to make. The Patina/Amoco mafia running the sh-- show from the top are working from the failed Amoco play book. Look at the Noble drilling successes based on luck or serendipity. Then look at ALL the dry holes Noble has drilled in the last 3 years based on hubris. Finally look at the wells that came in based on good geoscience = 0. That kind of drilling record will put Noble in ‘junk’ status within 5 years or less. Dave et al cares little as they will all be gone. THAT is the problem with Noble. I for one will bide my time and run, not walk, to the nearest exit when oil prices return to functional levels. As for you trolls, enjoy your time at Noble while it is still around

Every company treats you as a number. We're all expendable. Noble doesn't owe me a thing, but my check after my week is up.

Good god, Noble is one of the worst companies in the oil patch. It is a company that makes terrible decisions based on poor technical work and management recommendations. Plus, they treat their employees like numbers, not people. If you haven't experienced this yet, you will soon.

A lot of the posts sound like they were written by people who don't know enough about Noble to have ever worked there. Maybe environmentalists who are trying to give the company a bad name? If you actually work for Noble and it is such a hellhole, why do you stick around? If you are such a prize you should be able to find plenty of other jobs that will pay what you think you are worth.

My limited vocabulary, works fine in my position. No I am not a manager, or supervisor. So I don't need to sound cool or "eloquent ". It's not needed to make the company money. It requires getting dirty and not being a pencil pusher who bitches about everything.

I love my job here and have no complaints. If I did hate it, as I read so much here, by still employed NBL employees. I'd leave and find somewhere happy. Even if it meant a pay cut at first.

The people still employed here are the ones who talk all the BS. The ones laid off haven't said anything like the current employees on here have. If you hate your job, find a new one. No ones keeping you here. No one can change or control your life, but yourself.

This site is about layoffs, duh! By definition if a company is having layoffs that means the execs F'd up and failed to read the market. Employees rightly get PO'd when that happens and their jobs are put at risk thru no fault of their own. Doubly so when the execs refuse to accept responsibility for their failures. Don't like the criticism? Then perhaps you are one of the screw-ups being criticized. Here's a clue: Stop F'n up and the criticism will stop. In the meantime, get use to it.

Absolutely. When you mention Noble Energy in Denver people either roll their eyes or they hold their nose. Nobody wants to work here. Noble will continue to get young people to work for them... they don't know any better. Experienced people want nothing to do with Noble.
