Thread regarding National Oilwell Varco Inc. layoffs

Nov 500 Conroe park west not done yet, last wave of layoffs?

Ive come to the conclusion that if your not on your knees taking it from behind or into the game of politics you might as well quit and move on nothing will ever change sad excuse for a company. Ive been working at the facility for about 6years most that came before or around the same time have already been laid off and replaced with friends of the new general manager Guy its funny you get a Gm that used to work for smith next thing you know he hires a friend that worked with him as a supervisor then before you know everyone thats been at the company for the last 2 years seem to have all worked at smith but thats enough said about that what really bothers me is we been laying off little by little dwindling numbers down laying everyone i recall ever going on short term or long term medical leave anyone getting paid a decent amount that had worked for reed before nov has taken over now its left to what you know and the buddy system. Its funny i was in the cafeteria eating lunch and Fred "big wig" is iin thier laughing with guy about how guy laid of a few coworkers and the way he had went about it just wrong at least have the decency to keep information like that to yourselves they then began conversing about future plans moving aircenter opening the new building on site gessner moves shipping moves lab goes to aircenter and to top it off how to incorporate past aircenter employees hint HSE funny they let our Hse guy go and replace him so soon. Then when you think its come to a hault lets blab about audits coming up and how we have no updated JHA's to cover our asses or how new machines that have been moved or products have no procedures for said areas or even anyone other then the employees that can run them. Lets have engineers ask employees how they run and base procedures off thier opinions because we are to cheap to call machine manufacturers to come out and provide employees with the information that could actually be valuable instead lets spend thousands of dollars to paint floors blue so its hard to keep clean and have employees clean the floors every few hours instead of doing profitable woork and lets spend thousands more to move machines out the facility or rearrange them and then a couple thousand more for new forklifts because our maintance crew dosent know how to fix anything so we spend thousands more for contractors to come do thier jobs and we can keep going spend thousand on floor scrubbers for the bs we did to the floors instead of spending the money on updated machinery we move an area call it effecient then decide this isnt working lets spend more to move it this way we can lay off more shop employees instead of some of the office personel which can spare thier bs assistance and non college retard engineers that have more questions than answers if i owned this company i would first to establish a considerable amount of cash flow sell of all the bs laying in the grass around the building cranes scrap metal extra oil chemical thats no longer in use fire the upper management hire new management that are not related and or connected in any past buisness walk the shop find out what the employees know as far as why work is late slow what procedures can be fixed how a job can be accomplished faster and safely and give a raise because thiers plentyof employess excluding those related to anyone thats worked at smith resumes tell all that have been with this company for 3 or more years with nothing to show no raise no incenative just do this job and three others get certified on everything and work work work no lunch just office personel no bonus no raise not even a few thank you's instead its we have a mandatory meeting every other week of how we are making nov look bad because the cost vs profit were losing money no sh-- look at whats getting spent abd the big wig is just worried about impressing CEO lets all cleab up the day before so we look good then go to sh-- until the next big walk through so they give us more money. Appreciate feedback i know nothing will change until im either fired or laid off but here's to trying to enjoy my job.

I strongly agree wasted time and money spent at the facility. Layoff lasted a few weeks and they really did get a few talented guys now just like the last few layoffs thier changing up jobs moving people around and everyone is just getting frustrated. I guarantee if you asked each person in this plant individually if they would want to be laid off you would probably be shocked at the answers unhappy work enviroment.

When you find a new job, keep your eyes open and your mouth shut and pay attention to the "buddy system" they have in place. It exist in EVERY company, like it or not!

NOV got rid of or ran off all the good Reed Hycalog employees. The Reed Hycalog people left in Conroe are as stupid as NOV management. Maybe even more stupid especially for the ones that were offered the early retirement package and did not take it. More than likely they will discard you when they are done with you. It has been said that people who were treated so badly are just mad that they were forced out or laid off. No, it is the only nice thing NOV ever did for us.

You are so right on so many many levels with your comments. This goes on at several facilities and the buddy system is key over at corporate. It really is "who you know" or "who you blow". What best friend or family member you have in management protecting you. Regardless of how incompetent you are. Really sad. It will be the ultimate downfall of NOV they are losing so much talent and keeping the wrong people. But this will catch up with them.

They laid off around 12 last week at the conroe facility a supervisor on nights and mostly 2nd shift shop employees. I heard from management there was more to come
