This just in: Next round of RA in US is imminent. HR to hold meetings this week. Pretty deep cuts in tech sales for US. 17% of the tech sales force is to be RA'd to make room in July for new Open Source positions. Code name Project Solitaire. Departure date June 30th.
What is an Open Source position?
I'm in IBM tech sales. We used to be engineers. Now we are just sales people, that's what IBM has taken its best technical minds and turned them into. Tech sales will be given quotas going forward, for things like opportunity identification, revenue generation, etc. This is what you want your technical people focused on, rather than improving the horribly defective and crappy products? Another sign of the massive degeneration of this once proud institution, and believe me, there are many.
