I left on my own in 2014 but I really hated the fact that Seagate was so degree focused – you had to have a PhD or a Masters degree to do any kind of advancement here – even if you were a rock star and your performance was stellar, there was a ton of limitations that would prevent you from advancing from the career standpoint.
Anyhow, even with that degree your opportunities to move up are very much hindered by a rather ossified internal structure and lack of growth – that’s the primary reason I left (even though we all knew massive job cuts were coming sooner or later)…
The industry is changing and Seagate is trying to shift a very big 50k employee ship here – you can expect to see layoffs every quarter for next two years until things stabilize. Good luck to all and I wish you all the best.
