There needs to be a new grand illusion to replace the failed old grand illusion. Unfortunately, there isn't any growth market out there so Intel is stuck flogging the dead cellular horse. Buying MediaTek would just ruin an otherwise decent company. How long before Altera? bites it

I think what you meant to say is simply "when has Intel penetrated a market" PERIOD. The acquisitions have never helped Intel penetrate any markets because Intel hasn't penetrated any markets lately. The last market penetration was servers in the 1990s. Time for a marriage counselor Intel.
