BK has a bunch Bain consultants on the payroll, I wonder will bet SET all over again? It's hard to imagine an even further consolidation of power in Portland. There is no precedent for Holt leaving.

The only alternative for Intel in my view is to do pretty much what you suggest regarding spinning out TMG to become a merchant market foundry services company. The distinction that I would draw though would be that the systems and chipset design and technology groups should be abandoned. It is over folks. It has been a great run, beginning with the momentum that only monopoly power can provide,.... but it is over.
BK needs help with strategy - drones and moving existing revenue into an "IOT" name are not going to bring Intel the growth it needs. Instead of trying to cut our way to prosperity what he should be doing is trying to determine how Intel can win against ARM long term and how to vastly reduce the Intel bureaucracy - we are our own worst enemies. This is what Bain can help with. For example: you could spin off TMG and have a separate mfg company and design company. And maybe Intel's destiny is to live with lower margins like a TSMC and become a foundry? (It certainly will be if we continue failing at playing catch-up with ARM on the low end, because the low end has won phones/tablets and has been/is creeping up into desktop/laptop)
