That's me essentially laid off. The company is looking for alternative roles for me but let's be honest I'm gone.

Dude? You must not work for slb if that your advice to stay employed lol.
Lucky you!
Not even in oil. Just unfortunate enough that our company got bought by them.
Hahahahahahahahahhaha that was funny..
Anonymous does have a point - now's a good time to kiss ass like you never have in your life. But once he/she gets the hammer we'll sit back and see what bitches will stew. All interesting how the one's that got the hammer express their feelings on here which is normal. And its interesting to listen to the one's that still have a job on the other end of the spectrum. But as the hammer pull continues to grow, one thing that sure doesn't change and that's the venting of the experience. After all of it said in done, one thing for sure none of us have any control over the price of oil. In America, for the past 40-50 years, booms and busts cycle every 3-6 years. Just is what it is. If you don't like that risk, I'd suggest going to college to become a nurse, doctor, dentists, Journeyman, Carpenter. Anything that's not in Oil.
Dude, if it were me.... and it isn't.. but if it were..
I'd be showing the boss your range of skills..
From being a wiz bang engineer, all the way to toilet cleaner and parking lot clean up. Trim the bushes outside. Empty the trash. Steam clean the engine compartment to the trucks/pickups. Replace the toner in the copy machines. Organize the closets.
When he asks you WTH you're doing.. "tell him, I am working my *** off for this company, and I will do whatever it takes to not get laid off. I know times are tight and layoffs are coming, but I know that they say headcount has got to be reduced. I am doing everything I can to make sure mine is NOT one of those heads."
Now is not the time to be lazy and complain. Now is the time to "kick *** and take names."
Good luck!!
