Thread regarding Follett layoffs

Leave Follett.

Leave Follett. There a jobs out there. Don't waste your talent on a company that doesn't care about you. A bonus does not make up for all the hours that you have worked. Region 39 it's terrible. Kevin Boyce is an awful regional manager.

I suppose it is easier to speak about people you have no clue about than do your actual jobs.

Miss the old NYC Region where we worked 50-60 hours even though we only got paid for 40 Hours and didn't mind it. Why.. because we loved our jobs. Now we're being treated like guys they picked up at Homedepot for the day. No loyalty to the long term employees

Look no further than #431 Take stock on all the employees that have quit or have been let go over the last 4 years. Fine Example on how to tear a Region apart.

Wake up Mr.Kline

How about the decision to promote someone as DM at SCCC who just lost the contract to an online competitor? Who thinks rewarding mediocrity is a smart way to build the company? Seems to be a pattern. Lose your contract, get promoted. Maybe it's something we should all strive for.

A good leader doesn't tear down his people, he picks them up.

He was the store manager at Baruch, Follett Lost the contract to Barnes & Nobles, and his store was never the excelling store within the region. His store was feature as the "don't do this," he was the laughing joke within the region, and his friendship with other Follett employees.

It's a well know fact in the region. That store manager quit before she was fired, she was burning the store to the ground, not being at the store and she accused the previous regional manager of sexual harassment, and he quit before being fired.

Wow the comment on regret found bone. You're dead on. I saw it unraveling. I even called them on what they were doing. The abuse increased. I should have left before being hurt so badly.

As for the comment on the woman getting a promotion due to flirtation; be careful with that one. There may be truth there, but, if a friendly guy with the same qualifications got the same promotion, would you say the same thing? What I saw was a love of paper pushers and yes people. They were promoted. Flirting didn't help. But, you were there and I wasn't

There was a customer service associate that became a store manager within the year, very little experience, and all because she flirted with the Regional president. Having friends with other storemanagers helps you move up within the company.

when I was offered a better job, Follett wouldn't want to match my salary to stay with the company, and they would only an increase of 5,000 a year and no increase in the following three years.

I agree. He is no stand up guy. He's not just following orders, you as a leader are in control of your team and what works as a unit. He might been long enough in the industry, but doesn't mean his a qualify regional manager, and he was not the first choice for that position. The position was offered to other candidates, they all turned it down, and was given to him. Majority of his region doesn't like him, school officials think his a joke, and when he only hires his friends.

I left Follett after working for them for over 10 years. It was a scary choice to leave, but I thank my lucky stars every day that I did. Now, I have a fantastic job with a wonderful boss who makes me feel valued every day. I am not the type of person who believes in regret, but I regret every minute of the time and energy that I gave to follett. And yeah, I can blame the management, but I am mostly just angry at myself for staying so long. I'll never get those years back.

No "stand up guy" abuses people on orders. This is a right and wrong thing. Yes, he could be fired, but a stand up guy wouldn't mind looking for work when his morally bankrupt boss orders him to abuse workers. Good people can't be talked into to doing evil things. Evil people do evil things. Good people don't. Actions speak louder than words.

Just know that by staying you're implicitly endorsing these past 3 years. In fact, you're suggesting that your colleagues that were either laid off directly, or brutalized until they had no choice but to get out, were somehow wrong. You survived because you are valuable to them. You're not. You likely had fewer years in the company. However, if you refuse to relocate, continue to gain experience, and continue to live, the company will set you up just like they did your former colleagues.

Promise yourself that this is the week you get your resume in order and begin making professional connections. Now is the time to act. Otherwise when they come for you, you're complicit.

Nobody needs validation that Follett is a dead end. If you're sticking around then you must just be a massochist. All good. Whatever floats your boat. Just don't bitch about it.

I think Kevin is a stand up guy. He's just following orders. He been in the industry long enough to know which directives are bullshit and which aren't, but when you get to his level, you don't have that much leeway to say so. It's not his fault this entire company is one huge mismanaged shit show.
