Thread regarding Follett layoffs

Remember when?

When working at Follett was fun.

They promoted people who deserved it and the higher ups knew your name.

Working for Follett used to be great, there was a vision, strategy, grooming of resources, development of people and leaders. I feel like now it's all about executives and short term financial results. We also grew so much so working here at Follett feels like being just a number. My two cents only.

All,

First and foremost, I hope AEO is resting in peace, but that's far fetched because the outcome of Follett today was not her vision. I wish you all well, especially the few remaining from River Grove!!!

The faster you reconcile that you are expendable the faster you can remedy your situation with a new opportunity. The days of viewing human resources at Follett as assets are gone folks. Wake up!

And you may ask yourself

How do I work this?

And you may ask yourself

Where is that large automobile?

And you may tell yourself

This is not my beautiful house

And you may tell yourself

This is not my beautiful wife

Follett

Follett used to respect and consider their employees as a intergil part of achieving business goals financially and providing especial customer service. Which to achieve one it takes the other. Now the business strategy is more employees needed to be treated like preschoolers, similar to kmart, seats, best buy styles. Basically bringing in used car sales mentality to a retail business. Lies to everyone since everyone is stupid or nice both are easy targets to profit from.

It was never fun and they were always cheapskates. People staying there are not doing themselves any favors for when they eventually hit the market. Most larger firms would laugh at Follett as a place to gain experience.

I never dreamed that "good old days" meant the company didn't hate you. The company saw you as an asset. The company knew that, with their employees, they could build a great and profitable business.

It has always been an exploitation model. If an employee wanted to work at a college or university, they had a dependable job and solid employer. It was a fair trade off. Now, employees are seen as the enemy. We get in the way of their money. This isn't unique to Follett, but that simply means Follett is not special.

I don't remember fun, stores have never had the respect from HO they deserve, but, I do remember job security, good insurance & other benefits, great associates, a pride in working at Follett, so sad to see this fade away by the arrogance & ignorance at the top. Follett family wake up!!

remember when

....Corp didn't dictate what 'fun' activities were permitted

....you could go to the bathroom whenever you needed, even if it wasn't your official break time.

I remember those days. Now they think that all they have to do is send out an email saying that their goal is to have the happiest employees in the industry. What a laugh.
