My friend was just notified today. Was asked to either take the VSP or go on redeployment. He has to let them know by Jan 18th. He is in Folsom.

Congrats on being ready to go. Saving as much as possible in your teens through 40s and being financially secure is the best strategy. Then if they drag you to a conference room you can just smile.
You're telling the wrong person to "sleep well". I've been planning my exit for a while (it will be in the next few months). I could care less if I got tapped on the shoulder early. I've saved enough and retiring early so I can enjoy life without having to work. So you sleep well. :) Nite nite, don't let the bed bugs bite.

You don't know what you're talking about @1tav. The hmmmm at someone posting an incorrect org name makes one wonder if they are lying or telling the truth. Had he had the correct name of what TMG stands for I wouldn't have wondered, but since he has the wrong name for TMG.. it makes me think it was possibly a lie.

Food for thought: anyone who was offered VSP but turns it down will probably get a negative performance message at Focal. You might as well paint a target on your back.

Thanks guys. He has one kid graduating next May and another one that will go to college in two years. I was 6 months away from rule of 75 when I got the ISP on June 13, 2015. He has been looking for few months but no luck so not sure if he stays it will do him any good. My recommendation to him was to take the VSP and come back later. Hope they don't offer ISP to existing employees again but then again you never know with BK. He did say they might do the ISP again. Wonder how many other people were notified yesterday.
if he just turned 50 and he worked for Intel 20 years, his age+work years are just 70, only 5 points or 2.5 years away from 75 rule to retire from Intel. Now it is actually hard to decide, if he has good skills and project, he has idea to get another job in Intel, I think he should try to stay in Intel for 2.5 years to get retirement package.
At age 50, he might have kids in college, he has family to support at least. this is ugly.
I'd take VSP in a heartbeat. :)
There are 3 reasons getting VSP now is lucky: a) timing - the economy is good now b) Intel is going downhill as a company (the VSPs/layoffs are a symptom, I won't go into the disease but lets just say it's stage 3 inoperable) c) they're paying you as you leave. Psychologically it still sucks I know but the $ are good. Having all of these factors in your favor in quite rare. Now is a good time to leave and a great time to take VSP if you can get it!
VSP or redeployment is much better than the ISP (layoff) last year, so he should feel lucky in that sense.

That sounds like a lot of time to me. I thought timelines were usually shorter than 2 weeks (but what do I know?).
