Thread regarding Southwestern Energy Co. layoffs

2016 Layoffs

The last well in Arkansas is being drilled now. It will more than likely be capped instead off fractured and sent to production. With that in mind layoffs will more than likely happen before January 1st or shortly after. Operations will cease in AR and PA with numerous layoffs. Why not WV? That is fairly simply.

The company leveraged themselves 5.4 billion to purchase those assets. The board is not willing to admit that that was a huge error on their part. So the production workers will suffer for it. The WV allocation has been the nail in the company's coffin. It began the downward spiral of the stock and loss of confidence in investors eyes. From that point it has been one bad decision after another.

So now they are putting all their eggs in one basket and it would be the wrong basket. AR has proven itself and carried the company and is being tossed aside for a pipe dream. Rumor also has it that the company is in the process of being acquired.

Probably a nice poison pill to prevent an acquisition. SWN did this same thing when headquartered in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Lost a huge (at that time) class action lawsuit. Stock tanked, almost went into Bankruptcy then. With the bank calling their note on the CHK acquisition, bankruptcy is looming. Mueller made a horrible deal. Should have stayed in Arkansas and stayed the great company that they used to be known for before the 1997 management change. After that change, a great company turned into a horrible company. Too many friends worked there and I did business with them prior to the change in management. New management thought they were so much smarter, didn't take them long to take the company to shambles.

"There's a brilliant reply. Makes me wonder how much of this is going on on company phones and laptops and being tracked. That could be a real eye opener at some point."

lol... What all can be tracked with airwatch and a company phone tied into an exchange server? Just might be worth looking into.

Rumor has it.....rumor has it......rumor has it.

What does rumor have? Well rumor has a few people that really don't know anything for sure spreading fodder on the net for a couple of thousand others to look at and spread.

Do all those hanging on and hoping for the best a favor and STOP!!!

There are enough people in this industry and many others going through hard times right now. They don't need this kind of thing going on. You do this here, someone reads it and takes it to work with them. It bleeds out unto the field and destroys any moral that is there making very long days.

"If you don't understand the difference between "your" and "you're," then you really have no business making judgement calls on executive management strategies"

Maybe you should learn to read. "Your" was correct. Unless you want to say "It's the 7th, where are you are rumored layoffs?"

Dumb ass

If you don't understand the difference between "your" and "you're," then you really have no business making judgement calls on executive management strategies. Cutting costs by laying down rigs... Yes. And yet you believe that there aren't a few hundred employees whose jobs depend on those rigs running? You know, the people who support those retired rigs?

But, no. Go on. Your probably write.

What color is the sky in your world!

If you think that SWN can keep paying the hundreds of engineers, geologists, land folks, front and back office support and all the field personnel you must be living in a padded room somewhere!

The fat will be trimmed and it will be sooner than later and it started this morning with "All in Steve Mueller" who orchestrated one of the most incompetent acquisitions in the whole energy industry by spending 5.4 billion on some potentially very good rock that could have been purchased for substantially less just a few months later. This is precisely why you don't need a bunch of engineers running corporations! SWN will survive but will become much leaner very soon

If you work at SWN and your doing your job you will be fine. The company is doing great and reduced the costs by laying down the rigs. No one worry. Everything is fine.

Talk about stirring the pot, want to add a little more HEAT to see if you can make this boil over?

Please, for this captivated audience share YOUR supreme knowledge and authority and reassure all these SWN employees that they and their children will have jobs for years to come. Read the news, the new CEO said he will be reducing costs. These people are SMARTER than you.

Sounds like the OP has been listening to the rumor mill which is running full speed right now. There is probably some pieces of truth at the core of the rumors but at the end of the day if you work here this kind of crap isn't helping. We all know something is going to happen but right now if you are working consider yourself lucky and plan for what might be coming. Until something is put out there in concrete go to work, do your job, and be thankful you have a job. Blowing steam off on a website and stirring the pot isn"t helping anyones situation or anything.

Where are you getting your information of 700 to 800 employees? Why would they lay off employees?

Now that's funny. I think the only really question is how many hundreds? My guess is 700-800 over the next couple of weeks.

Hearing that 30-45% of total headcount will be cut soon. There is no other option in this commodity price environment. Remaining SWN employees at corporate headquarters will all be in either the North or South Tower and open space leased out to another tenant. SWN needs every penny it can find to survive this downturn in the energy environment

I don't think anyone is joking about the upcoming layoff, or the seriousness of the situation...

I do think people will poke fun at a website full of backseat ceo's and keyboard warriors.

To joke lightly about the well being of 100s of employees and their family members is low and crass. If the rumors are true about the layoffs coming this week, a lot of good hard working people and their families will be coping with a good amount of stress - go somewhere else and look for a heart tin man.

Yes, Exxon is buying SWN tomorrow morning. Everyone is being let go and the new building is being torn down. Everyone already sees the bulldozers and heavy machinery lined up across the street, just waiting. It has been confirmed 100% reliable and accurate by the Googles.
