Since i work in the florida region our biggest competitor is publix,with trader joes just now getting in down here recently..i still hear on a daily basis from shoppers at wfm " yeah but we still gotta stop at publix,after this..." we are an overpriced niche player,always have been but mackey wants to convince wall street otherwise..
Many of our moves down here are in response or reactive to publix and not leading the game- publix has an online app order system so you can -order food,pay and pick up something like deli foods or subs,we have nothing like this here..they also beat us on similar conventional items pricing-ever notice our strawberries or grapes are 1$ more per box or lbs. For the same ones?? People go to publix for party cakess for weddings and kids parties- who they hell wants to spend 30$ for a small 8inch tiramisu for juniours 10th bday?
Lastly customers always have to get the housewares(what i referred to at beginning) at publix- people need bleach ajax,scouring pads, can openers from china that dont cost 15$..etc..
