Agree Intel is heading down AMD's path. Another analogy would be DEC or Sun. Intel is continuing to invest in where it is seeing returns today (high end/datacenter CPUs) just like DEC and Sun did all through their disruption and eventual demise. What would a turnaround look like? One obvious example would be Apple. Their focus of investment in the early 2000s was not where they were currently making money (high end graphic design and education desktops and laptops), rather they had a visionary CEO who forced the investment into whole new product categories: smartphone and tablet. It's the decision to be innovative and risk-taking that turned the company around. At Intel I see zero of this. DEC/Sun, here we go again.
Also heard the same from Folsom site. It is in Q1. Whoever stays in Intel its really asking for it. The question will be what is the new criteria. Being in the same job level for extended period, successful last 3 years, etc... Same crap will continue for foreseeable future. The company is down hill similar to what happened with AMD. Its Intel time now.
Cool, bring on the layoffs!
Heard at RA
Heard it in OR too.
Heard same rumor in SC
Confirmed layoff in January. Be prepared folks.
Barry Meinzer, CEO of Wind River Systems, resigned this week. Rumors are flying around in Alameda that we are looking at a major RIF and so is Intel, in general.
Naw. Decline in revenue equals layoff.
Nobody wants a tired laptop. Layoffs .
Look over there - it's racism (aka distraction). Don't be distracted. It doesn't matter what color or background you are; Intel is a terrible company regardless of your skin color.
What is the source of your information?
How many people does a company that has 1 profitable product need? How many of those people are needed in high cost geos? It all depends on the goals. If Intel has no ambition to grow by delivering new products and just wants to try to defend it's declining CPU share then layoffs ARE necessary. If Intel wants to grow through new, innovative products it should stop the unending rounds of layoffs and focus on growth.
This is necessary
