Doug and his Anadarko cronies were so arrogant when they took over. "We could sell the Utica and pay off all our debt" was the rallying cry at one point to analysts. Too bad they didn't sell properties to pay down debt when they first came in and took over. This company COULD have been saved and that was whet they were brought in to do. But when you bring in boys to do men's work, these are the results you get. No one trust you DDD and executive team!

I would definitely agree that Doug could have reacted faster to the deteriorating conditions in the market. It is very clear in hindsight that production cuts could have been made sooner, and deeper. That would not have fixed the debt or marketing issues, in fact, it might have reduced the debt repayment that actually occurred. I still believe that he is at a disadvantage to many other CEOs in the industry who entered this turndown without the added burden of his predecessor's decisions. Maybe not an excuse, but certainly a handicap. Since the stock is being hammered specifically for the issues of debt, marketing agreements, and overproduction, I don't think is is inaccurate to say he inherited most of the problems that caused the downturn we see in the stock today.

If you were hired into a non-executive position and inherited many severely negative legacy issues, for how long would management allow you to use those legacy issues as excuses for poor performance? Most likely, you would be held accountable within a year, and your annual reviews would suffer.
One may argue that Doug inherited these issues without fully realizing the magnitude of the problems (as he has mentioned in previous interviews). However, no one forced Doug to take the position. He incorrectly calculated the probabilities before accepting CHK's offer, but his mistake does not exonerate him from blame for the company's subsequent performance.
FWIW, Doug has always touted production growth since day one of his tenure. While I would hesitate to use the word masterminded, I would definitely lay some of that blame at his feet.
Would you care to attribute the 95% decrease in stock price since June of 2014, or was that all the fault of those who were no longer with the company at time too?
So, Doug incurred the debt load CHK is buckling under, Doug masterminded this enormous production growth that contributed to low energy prices, and Doug initiated those nasty marketing arrangements that are killing the company. Clearly this is all Doug's fault. Oh, wait wasn't that someone else?
Most impressive was that I thought I heard our CEO was investing $10MM of his own money into CHK stock just like Jamie Dimon had just done at J.P. Morgan. It speaks volumes about his belief in the future of the Company and it's employees.

Unfortunately, Dougie can say whatever he wants, it won't turn the company around. Seems to me he has been saying all the right things in these town halls for the past two years. It's reminds me of my high school pep rallies. We would be all fired up, take the field, and proceed to get the shit kicked out of us. Pretty sure CHK will experience similar results. Those of you praising the "leadership" have lost touch with reality. Drink up sheep, drink up.
I am a proud to support this country, state, town, our oil and gas industry, and this company. I take exception to read the negative, vulgar, and mean spirited comments presented on this web-site. I don't work for this company, but I support its success.

Wow, we at Chesapeake aren't even able to be grateful to leadership for a strong positive message without the haters coming out of the woodwork. You heckle with glee when things are bad and spit on us with condescending sarcasm when we actually get some good news. Propaganda in a pep talk? Unheard of. Kudos to the original commenter who had the courage to wade through the flood of haters to send a message to our leadership, who apparently read this. We needed that message, and yes, we appreciate what you are trying to do.
