Holy Moses that's a lot of employees and a lot of facilities shut down!!!!! It's worse than we thought!
I read the quarterly earning report that came out last week. It said NOV eliminated 15,000 positions in 2015 and has closed 75 facilities. I and the office I worked from, were part of those statistics. People can hang on and think it'll get better but I think this is a fundamental change in the industry and all the O&G and service companies will never be as big as they once were.
An article from the HBJ provides more details around the 21% figure: http://www.bizjournals.com/houston/news/2016/02/03/national-oilwell-varco-reports-loss-job-cuts-for.html
In short, 63,642 x 0.21 = 13,364 (global)
This 21% is not evenly applied in every location. For example, NOV Norway is somewhere near 45%, at last count. Each division & location has different numbers.
21% of the NOV workforce
