Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Google will soon replace Intel chips in its data centers with Qualcomm chips.

Does anyone know if there is any validity to this story?http://www.rcrwireless.com/20160205/chips/google-eyeing-qualcomm-to-replace-intel-chips-in-data-centers-tag17

@glc - did you even read the articles? Sheesh!

The first is from yesterday and it's the article that says Google IS switching to Qualcomm (whom they've partnered with). The second one is from two years ago; it's the article that says Google is designing their own chip.

Ironically Clayton Christensen (coined "disruptive innovation") spoke to Andy Grove's staff about Intel's ability to be the disruptive innovator (and displace DEC, SUN, etc). Now the tables are turned and it is ARM as the disruptive innovator (displacing Intel) with extreme efficiency compute/$

Amazon as well. Soon there will be no server business. It takes 1.5 yr to get the design done and out of FAB. So even though this is old news it will take effect very soon. Wait and see.

I think this is true. There was an announcement two years ago that caused intel sock to drop; that announcement was that Google would be designing their own data center processors. Apparently, they partnered with Qualcomm on the chip design. This is very bad news for Intel.
