Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Intel Diversity program is stupid

No diversity hire at Intel should feel good since the perception will be that they were only hired because they are part of the Diversity hiring quota program and were not the most talented engineer.

I agree that they are more 'Asian' than 'White' but really like the idea of creating their own category for them as they really aren't either (but more Asian than White due to geography). Boot them out of the white category and put them in one that makes more sense, especially when people, agencies, etc. are looking at diversity numbers. They're looking at crap data that needs to be cleaned up IMHO.

I believe Indians are categorized as Asians, so they skew the Asian numbers. I agree with separating Indians out from Asian diversity numbers.

Not when it feels like there are 50%+ Indian men at the company. Just my opinion but I think there isn't a category for Indian when it comes to saying what race you are so they pick White. That inaccurately skews how "white" our company really is. I don't consider Indian's white.

I think maybe Intel (and other companies, I'm sure) should add an 'Indian' option to better represent their diversity numbers. Intel would look less "white" if we did that. Granted, it doesn't help with Hispanic and Black numbers (or non-administrative woman for that matter) but it DOES paint a better picture of how less-white Intel is than their skewed numbers show.

Diversity or affirmative action...it's blatant discrimination!

Of course those benefiting from it aren't going to say or do anything about it. They love the reverse discrimination.

Once companies and society in general deteriorate due to mediocracy and hiring substandard talent...only then will it begin to change. It's already starting.

Sounds like Nazi foot soldier excuse - I was just following orders. If you're ok with changing your morality to knowingly discriminate then how do you decide where to draw the line?... Moral bankruptcy

True, but I don't take my morality from Intel or the US government. If rules by those in power dictate your morality then you are morally bankrupt.

Discrimination was wrong when it was government sanctioned against people of color and it's STILL wrong now that it is government sanctioned for quotas for people of color.

Most peon engineers don't give a rats ass how they got the job...as long as they get in, can get paid and gain experience to move on.

You'd be a fool to go to Intel for pride or accomplishment. Its a stepping stone to more technical experience. At Intel you are a cog....even you BS low and middle managers and PEs that think their farts smell like roses.

Why don't they just call it what it really is? Affirmative Action, Reverse Discrimination.
