Thread regarding Chesapeake Energy Corp. layoffs

I'm glad I'm seeing a lot of people who are unskilled getting laidoff from the oil industry

People who are high school drop outs don't deserve to earn six figure salaries digging for shale oil. I'm glad the world is returning back to normal.

Very good point "accountant", but when we all get laid off next month, you can go get a job accounting for something else. Most people in the oil patch will not have that same luxury.

I'm an accountant with a Master's degree. I wouldn't have anything to account for if not for the people who knew how to get the product out of the ground. We have jobs because of them, not vice versa.

So true, sometimes work experience equals more knowledge. Some people chose to get a degree, some didn't. It shouldn't be a battle over who is smarter. Seems though some people on this site are jealous their degree doesn't' pay as much. Use your knowledge and get a better job.You probably have the advantage, but don't be smug when someone loses their job, whether they have a degree or not.

You have never made 120k salary or you would know it's impossible in today's economy to have all that while being paid that. Uncle Sam gets a very large portion.

I can promise everyone that a degree is not directly proportional to intelligence. While it may help in today's society, it does not promise work ethic. Corporations are beginning to look at technical school graduates (vo-techs) for their work force. they are specialized in their field. Who wants a master of biology telling them how the down hole process works on a pumping unit over someone who barely graduated high school but has 25 years of experience operating such wells.

If anyone else misuses the word "your" instead of "you're", then YOU'RE going to be the first one fired! Please, for the love of God, sound it out as YOU'RE writing it people!!! Although, reading all of the silly responses bashing on the other guy for being stupid and uneducated is indeed more entertaining when there (not their) are numerous middle-school grammatical mistakes in their (not they're) own tongue lashings. So in that case, I suppose you can keep it up for my reading pleasure.

A few things. First, I assure you nobody will ever hold my job without a degree. I'm not boasting, it is what it is. A degree is nothing special anymore. Second, I have not lost my job, as my duties remain the same whether we have 45 rugs up, or 1. Third, I want no part of your field job, I much prefer my climate controlled office here in the city. Fourth, I have not talked any trash, much less called anyone childish names. Finally, there are countless other industries and companies in OKC and elsewhere which could use my services. I only jumped into oil and gas to ride the gravy train. When my time comes, I'll jump ship. That being said, I highly doubt you can claim the same, and are therefore completely dependent on forces outside of your control. For your sake, I hope you are one of the handful of field personnel I have ever met who happened to make decent financial decisions to best utilize that $120K wage. Alas, you probably drive a jacked up Ford pulling a 29' Baja and live in a 4000 square foot house on 1.5 acres. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.

Hey, your mama called, wants you to deliver them a pizza. Do they get a discount since you work at the local pizza joint? I might not have a degree, but I don't talk trash to people who do better than me. You probably lost your job, to someone without that fancy piece of paper, that's why you are such a shithead. There are all levels of workers with degrees and without in the oilfield, don't hold a grudge against them because they have better jobs than you.

If your a former employee and are complaining, maybe you should have worked harder to learn more then you could of walked away with value instead of being worthless. And if you have a degree and are complaining then I suggest you wipe your tears with your momma's apron and go get another job. There are jobs all over the country and you might have to move away from your blanket. Also if your a former employee why do you not post your name.?

I have nothing but respect for guys without high school degrees who found a great living in the energy sector. What would you rather them do? Not work and "live off the government" which is something you probably also have a problem with. As other posters have stated, you are probably mad about that degree you are still paying off with little ROI and feel the need to trash the other people who were either smart enough, or fortunate enough to avoid that trap. Perhaps those dropouts were just ahead of the curve, unlike you who was completely sold on the myth that a degree would guarantee you a job.

I don't liken it to nothing more than a piece of paper but I do firmly believe a degree isn't the end all be all to a have a decent living. Do more research and make smarter life choices.

To those who are making great money loan free without a degree....congratulations and apologies for a bad time in the energy sector.

I don't know what perks I get I don't work at Chesapeake' s Ok. I am a oil worker for another company and I am to busy to worry about the perks they get it's a benefit of the job. I am not a spoiled jealous dickhead like some people that have to whine when someone gets a bigger piece of the pie than they do. I work for what I get and don't hold it against people who get more than I do, doesn't matter what field they work in. Some people on this post are total asses though.

These naive children that work (for now) at Chesapeake get so butt hurt when former employees like ourselves speak out about how corrupt Chesapeake really is. My question for you CHKers is this....What are you guys going to do when you get laid off and have to work for a real company that doesn't have all of these silly perks? Are you guys going to be able to handle it? Based on all of the immature replies from these current employees, the answer is pretty clear. This is what happens when you hire people based on physical appearance and social status only. Dry your tears before replying.

No that would be your job, you are a piece of crap that is jealous that someone has a better job than you. Oh by the way, smart ass we drill for shale we don't dig, but your stupid anyway. Someone without a degree must have gotten the job you wanted. You sound bitter, what a jerk. You have no ideal how the energy sector works and how many people could lose their jobs. Unbelievable to think that's funny. Even with a degree you couldn't do the job of half those people you don't have a clue and you call us high school drop outs stupid.

Relax everybody. OP is obviously not in the business. Nobody says "digging for shale oil." Just a troll with a liberal arts degree, angry at their life choices. By the way, venti bold, no room for cream. Thanks.

Well I don't need a degree to know you are one stupid person. Or just real angry your degree hasn't got you a good paying job like mine. Sounds like your just a spoiled brat that never had to go and work hard for a living, Or did your wife leave your poor ass for some oilfield trash, you know the one with the high paying job.

Based solely upon the spelling and grammar from your posts, it is quite clear in at least one area where that degree is paying off. I also assume you are so concerned about the possible person wanting to order at the drive thru, because you are the one taking that order. Don't forget to ask them if they would like a hot, fresh baked apple pie with that.

If your so smart, why you have time to be on this site? Your just jealous your degree is no better than what I wipe my a** with. Don't need a degree, it's called life experience, but you don't get that by going to school to leave how to spend more of mommy and daddy's money. Hurry along I think there's someone at the drive thru who wants to order.

Hey jerk, your the stupid one if you think all oil field workers are unskilled. Let's see if that piece of paper your still paying for can do my job. I am responsible for multi million dollar wells. Your just jealous your degree gets you poverty level entry job somewhere. You are a piece of crap for your comments, I would never take enjoyment for someone losing their job , but in your case karmas a bitch

Hey shithead. There are plenty of us who work in oil and gas who are very well educated and who are losing our jobs. I have a masters in applied geochemistry and have been fortunate to not be laid off, but a coworker with a similar degree was let go in the last RIF. If you knew shit about the oil and gas industry, you would know how stupid this comment is.

Don't be jealous. It's not their fault they chose to work instead of wasting mommy and daddy's money to drink and receive a peice of paper. And after all that, you still have 0 work experience.
