Thread regarding Anadarko Petroleum Corp. layoffs

Appropriate Workforce Level

This is what was sent to employees via email today: "...it is now necessary to consider the appropriate workforce needs our new environment requires. We have asked each organization in our company to provide input so we can evaluate how to best reduce our staffing given the lower activity we now anticipate. We will be considering that analysis in the coming weeks, and plan to have the majority of changes and transitions defined and communicated by the end of the first quarter."

.................so I think it's very classy that Anadarko was actually considerate enough to communicate with the employees.

Really? The SEC requires notification of pending major layoffs to be sent out to all employees. Anadarko is shielding itself from litigation.

That works fine when other companies are hiring. In today's job market you would be insane to leave unless you had something 100% lined up.

This is just a guess but an educated one at that. If you worked/are working in any departments that had primary dealings with now/soon to be divested assets, you will be given a package. The only people who may be safe are the super users. Good luck everyone.

They did this because they hope that some folks will freak out and leave on their own - helps with severance (less paid out) and helps with weeding out people who were jump the ship anyway. Chesapeake Energy is very good at this - least time they announced it 75 days before the cuts started, there was a ton of people who jumped the ship before the axe fell

RIFs are scary and hard on everyone, so I think it's very classy that Anadarko was actually considerate enough to communicate with the employees about the necessity for the layoffs in order to survive the downturn, as well as provide information about the process and timeline. The guessing game and rumors are terrible without a strong management team steering the ship through the storm. Prayers for all of us in the industry.
