Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

Frustration guaranteed!

MORE FOR LESS! It should read MORE WITH LESS!!!

Coming up on 5 years with Staples I have never been so frustrated, angry, anxious and scared. I have put in 5 years of my life with this company and for what!?.. A .13 cent raise and some star points!!.. The vision for this company was sound when it first opened but now that vision is fuzzy and confusing. From what I have read and heard it is becoming more apparent that this company will continue to downsize until there are only tier 1 stores left. From a business standpoint how does this not make sense?. You cut your losses and move on, which does not leave room for small and under performing stores. I am in a tier 4 store with teir 3 sales. We have a million dollar store only 10 minutes from us which would not be an inconvenience for my customers. It is sad to think that in a few years I might not have a job after I have put so much time and effort into this job!

Next point, Corporate could care less about us. After hearing about the home office cutting 500 million in payroll I still have no idea how that will benefit us at all. I also have no idea who those people were and what services got cut. If that happened at the corporate level then how easy would it be for them to get rid of us. It makes me sick to think after 5 solid years of work it could be all over and corporate could care less. We are just a number to them a 7 digit number that means S&!T My district manager still has to look down at my name tag to remember who I am. That is if he even comes over to my department at all.

I could go on but my point is this...

If you are looking for a career with Staples forget about it. In 5 years I had to jump over hurtles just to become a cpc supervisor, which is a whole other story.

I have tried to talk to my manager about being promoted a number of times and every time I never get anywhere. In fact the stores Assistant Manager has been with Staples north of 15 years and is open about not wanting to be promoted to Manager because it is too stressful. Well thanks A$$HOLE you are holding up promotions for me and everyone else! It is just upsetting when you put so much effort into doing a great job for many years and it just doesn't matter. I am seriously considering taking a pay cut and moving to a company with a clear path for being promoted.

STAPLES GET YOUR CRAP TOGETHER AND START CARING ABOUT YOUR STORE ASSOSIATES WE ARE IN THE FRONTLINE WORKING OUR BUTTS OFF FOR YOU!!

There are so many intelligent people I work with that feel the same way I do and they either end up quitting or finding BETTER jobs. Maybe we need to start thinking about 5 years from now. Stay with a company that doesn't even know we exsist or leave and try somewhere else.

I am open to change and willing to adapt but give me something to keep me motivated and incentives to stay.

MORE WITH LESS... Guaranteed!!!

People might say I complain and Bit(h but tell me I am wrong! Tell me we get paid well for what we do and we have good benefits and there is opportunity to move up with the company. Until then I will continue to work hard and help my customers but if things don't change I don't know how much longer I can stay. Maybe a Staples union would help? I don't know. It's just sad... Tell me I am wrong please.

Stay Strong!

Best,

A underapprciated CPC Sup.

From what your saying here, you already answered your own questions, you know if you want a career this is not the place to have tenure with. And yes there are real company's out there who really DO care about employees. (not here at staples)get moving, get looking, you can do it!!!

Totally agree!, We work our asses off everyday and keep the store running and get nothing for it. We get blamed for everything when the staff sucks! Staples doesn't care about talent and won't recognize hard work.

All I am saying is it is such a shame. This guy is right. We put so much hard work in and for what... I personally go above and beyond everyday for my customers and my store and the only gain is that my customers appreciate me. Most ( not all) of us are really smart people that get up every morning to help others. Without us, people would be lost. We truly do help a lot of these people either in tech copy center and front store. It's a shame Staples does not do more for us that work so hard.

I agree work on your resume and get out.

Unions would not help - they would simply close the locations that vote to unionize. Staples is done (at least retail), get out asap.

I feel you, and you are right, on most points. There are many assistants that do not want to move up because of the stress as you stated.

There is little benefit for them to do so because there basically are no more bonuses because corp cant make EPS. There is little guarantee for any significant raise. They would also go from hourly with 5 hrs OT to salary and with no staff in store, that means they'd be working 55-60hours at the same or slightly more weekly pay, no OT. You are right about this being corp. fault, no incentive to move up. But as you said, it is a shrinking company so it will likely just get worse.

Work on your resume, apply to other places. My CPC sup is leaving for a privately owned printer and getting a 50% increase.

It will never get better at Staples, it is a publically traded company in a death spiral. Shareholders will always come first, then the execs will be taken care of. Any improvement to working conditions of the ran and file employees is at the bottom of the list of priorites.
