VMware Inc., a Palo Alto, Calif., virtualization firm with offices in Broomfield and Colorado Springs, began cutting 800 jobs this week. An unspecified number of jobs were in Colorado.

"We have not announced the number of positions that have been eliminated for specific locations of business units," Michael Thacker, a company spokesman, said in an e-mail. "I can confirm we have not announced any office closures in Colorado."

Broomfield had floors 3,4,5,7,9 of the building.

4 and 7 are ghost towns (vSphere/vCloud Air). 4 was a ghost town prior to this as most core support agents were sent to India last year. 7 was vCloud Air and lost 90% of it's team it feels; maybe 30-50 people.

5 is @60% capacity, mostly admin/sales/misc staff. 3 and 9 contain Enterprise Application support engineers and Federal/Premiere Services engineers. All of those those support people are safe for this quarter. Zero support agents were lost. Who knows what the rest of the year brings.

Colorado Springs lost a bunch of tenured developers. I do not know the % of the Springs workforce that was let go.
