Does anyone remember quest software? Dell bought it three years ago and destroyed it.

in my opinion I don't think so, at least in next 5 years definitely not. How will VMware respond back to market in next 2-3 years, will define its future. Lot of enterprises still bet on VMware products to build there private and hybrid clouds. They have strong base and trust in virtualization customers. There are lot of new players like Nutanix, Simplivity gaining moment as well. There is a Bigger Eco System build around VMware products .... its not going anyway ...but ..Lets wait and see. What's VMware's focus in coming years ???

This all reminds me of when NOVELL was a market leader.

I think NOVELL products are still around, so I guess don't worry. HA!

END OF LIFE assumes there was still life to begin with.

RIP pre-EMC VMware

Virtual Servers transformed the industry and made VMW a massive success. Virtual Desktops not so much. So the desktop side is an obvious target for cost cutting, and Dell gets bonus points because VMs compete with their Physical PC business. IMHO.

EMC CFO is in. Expect major "restructuring" of people.

watch VMware to start selling Dell products and moving to Dell datacenters to see how "independent" they are.

Dell has left VMware to operate independently. As with EMC & VMware, the two companies operated pretty independent from each other. It will be the same going forward with Dell / EMC & VMW.

My thoughts exactly, AppAssure 4 was 'relatively' fine product and then Dell turned it into a royal turd with a genius name AppAssure 5
