Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

store not following Target's own policies...request sent to corporate...corporate doesn't follow through... is this a sign of what's ahead?

the store i'm in doesn't follow corporate policy (breaks, working hours, etc.)... sent request in to corporate.... response was minimal to non-existent.. and store doesn't comply with their own handbook. Some people barely get home and they have to be back to work in 4 to 6 hours... among other things. Is this what Target is coming to.. and What to expect next??? Specifically - corporate employees - what can we expect at the store level? what are you hearing?

How dare you call out the man on his service. It's obvious he was referring to the 24/7 comment re Target. Shame!

"Was an active Marine for 11 years"

I take a long steaming crap on anybody who uses their military record as a get-out-of-reason free card.

You served. Good for you. You're still bound by the same rules of dialogue as everybody else.

F3I11N9-dqsl: absurd comment of the week! Was an active Marine for 11 years, they owned me 24/7. Target hardly owns anyone, certsinly TTS doesn't. After 3pm on a Friday you can't find a soul in the office. Suck it up and leave, then take some of your drama and write a novel or better yet go to work for a union. Man up!

It's a 24/7 agreement - once you start work, you belong to Target - oh there is the work/life balance (doesn't work - but it's called "work differently"). Not sure why one needs to spend 10 hours or more at work and then another few hours from home - around 11 PM or 2 AM.

Interesting. The protocol for a hotline responses I've been handed are very specific and formal, unless the complaint contains no specifics and is not first person

To the person who said the hotline is not a joke... at one point this was perhaps true... but not any longer. I was warned by someone who told me they have eliminated so many of the oversight positions (of the stores) that I would not get a response... I did not believe them...but as it turns out they were correct. My request for compliance was made via the hotline.

Am I the only one you finds it funny that this site is full of Corp Target Types bitching about how horrible their M-F Cube life is on the backs of the 200K plus hourly employees who work crap hours in stores day in and day out year after year????

Ok, let's assume for a minute that the OP "sent a request in to corporate...." Ok, minutes up.... There's no practical way for a Store Team Member to send a request in to corporate. If the OP was a real TM he would have called the hotline: 1-800-541-6838 It's plastered all over every store and its no joke.

To the poster that is ranting about "sue your way to unemployment", kindly can the theatrics and understand a few things:

(1) There's a difference between offering more hours and coercing employees to work hours beyond their contract.

(2) A climate of abuse happens when employers feel they can act with impunity, because nobody is willing to hold them to account to their own policies. Few complain when a rogue employee is fired for breaking company policy, so that commitment should ideally go both ways.

(3) The goal here is hopefully to avoid drama and just get Target team members to follow the rules. Short of that, all other options should always be on the table.

"Yes, let's all complain that a company wants to allow people to work more hours and make more money to have a better life." - You're on the wrong board man... No way does Target 'want to allow people to work more hours and have a better life.' Lmao. What fantasy company are you referring to?

Yes, let's all complain that a company wants to allow people to work more hours and make more money to have a better life. The new American way...sue your way to unemployment. No wonder I want to move out of America as fast as I can.

Agree with the previous poster! Keep a list of dates, names, what was discussed/emailed, this is the most important part. As long as you document a clear paper trail you will be fine. Walmart lost a huge lawsuit in MN years ago for not following their own employee handbook...

If they're blatantly not following their own policy or skirting employment law, that's a truck sized opening for a tidy lawsuit. Especially if it's been established that they ignored the issue after it was brought to their attention in writing Start documenting the bejeezus out of everything and keep copies of emails, etc.

this is how the holidays are unfortunately..... Nothing new, staffing sucks in the stores from Thanksgiving until the week after Christmas. Been this way in retail forever. Never enough staff for the holidays. Store retail is definitely not for everyone. It will get better week 2 of December. As a matter of fact your hours will probably be cut and it will be a moot point.

A long long time ago Target used to strive to be an employer of "choice", things change over time. Sometimes for the better sometimes for worse. At the present we may be in a slump, hang in there, I'm hoping sometime in the future Target will invest back into the employees and it will be a place that people prefer to work.

Basically your store will be turned into a warehouse that will make working for Amazon look like a picnic.
