Thread regarding Cameron International Corp. layoffs

Texas Warn Act

With all the layoffs at Equity and CCD last week and this week, I wonder how CAM got out of the requirements of the Warn Act. Westway, Equity, CCD and even Traveller's by the TWC's definition is considered a single site of employment. Below is the definition from TWC's website. I'm thinking there were more than 50 layoffs from all these locations over the last 2 weeks.

The term "single site of employment" may refer to:

  1. A single location or a group of contiguous locations. Groups of structures that form a campus or industrial park or separate facilities across the street from one another may be considered a single site of employment. Also, several single sites of employment may exist with- in a single building if separate employers conduct activities within the building;

  2. Separate buildings or areas that are not directly connected but are in reasonable proximity and that share staff and equipment

You do mean Schlumberger, right? The likelihood of Schlumberger re-hiring ex-Cameron is highly unlikely or anyone in the near future for that matter. They are in the process of laying off what, like 10K of their own employees this quarter. Cameron is currently in the process of a RIF as a reaction to low demand. And Schlumberger will be cutting redundant positions, both from Schlumberger and newly acquired Cameron, after the deal closes. So like I said, highly unlikely. At least until oil recovers and Schlumberger experiences some growth. So....along time from now!!

My question is this:

As with other oilfield Companies, how likely is Cameron Internationals to rehire some or all of the groups layed off?

What does their history show?

These companies know exactly how to stay under the radar. It's shameful. My question is with the number of unemployed just in the oil industry why the federal government has not extended the unemploymeny benefits.

And also..WARN is looking at total employment losses within a 90 day period.

WARN Act only requires notice if it at least 500 employees at a site or at least 33% will be laid off. And of course, facility closures.

Good question. I don't know the requirements for the time frame within your count total must be notified. Cameron is, and has always been, averse to publicity that has any negative connotation, so I feel certain that they are aware of the rules and carefully stay away from having to make public notice. The LeTourneau location on Brittmore was different and it was noticed by TWFC. Instead of doing it now and getting it over it is more like a "death by a thousand cuts".
