Thread regarding Education Management Corporation layoffs

Student protests

Are protesters supposed to picket their campuses on the 12th or the 21st? Both dates have been listed and there needs to be clarification so the participation is strong and impactful.

The online offices on the Pittsburgh strip and corporate in downtown Pittsburgh need to be picketed too.

Media needs to be notified so we get publicity.

Don't worry about duplication get the word out directly and through social media.

The public needs to see and hear what EDMC and go profit has done to education and their tax dollars.

MAKE IT HAPPEN!

Thats good advice, stay off the property so EDMC can call the cops, but make sure simple Google key words are on your signs to doubters can check for them self. I gurantee you most people still dont know about 11 Billion lawsuit or EDMC defaulted on 1 Billion loan or EDMC is ownned by is creditors. Worst job placement rate etc.

848 is on the money! Show up and protest on open house days. Many schools have only one entrance. Hold up signs "Google EDMC Fraud" - be respectful. How many students who started school this quarter don't know about the 11B lawsuit or that many people believe the school will be closed before they graduate?

I am not part of the protest, but I once worked on the inside. Hated it. Anyway, I am free but I wanted to offer a tip. If you really want to get under EDMC skin, schedule protests on the Open House days. Those days are more important to them then you realize. It's more than a first impression. It's literally the best shot they have a hooking an unsuspecting student into signing up. They got them off the phone and physically in the space. Many students even show up with parents which is even better because most are skeptical about art school to begin with. And keep it up, like once a month or whenever they have them scheduled. Their heads will literally explode, hit them where it hurts most, the pocket book. Peace Out.

@114, Get a clue, quite trying to spread a lie about how all schools are the same, its no more true then saying all men are rapists. The fact is, most men are good people and within that are a few bad eggs. The same is true with education, only the bad eggs are all in the For-Profit basket. Yes, both types of schools need to make money, but one does it to put it back into the system to make a better school, the other takes all that money to pay back it's shareholders and million dollar bonuses for corporate CEOs. At the end of the day, if you make it through a real college its because you earned it, you competed against other talented people. You have the best outlook possible to get a decent job. On the other side of the coin, for-profits charge just as much but with the worst possible results. Statistically you have the lowest job rate, highest default rate across the board. Facts don't lie.

976 has it backwards. The Million Student March is November 12th and the AI open house is November 21st. But yes... you need to look up your local time for both events.

In all honesty the community college where I earned a culinary degree had more equipment than an art institute program where I taught. It is shameful. I taught adjunct for one year then quit. I was shocked at what I saw. I'm back in the industry and would love to teach for a quality school one day. I keep expecting to read that the schools are all closing. I'm all for building great community colleges.

Give me a break. Find me a college (save for junior colleges) that haven't hopped on the train of increasing tuition and sapping as much from financial aid as possible. The only reason the focus is on for profits is because they are the only ones that admit they're doing it for money.

"The focus on only for-profits is very misguided." In this case EDMC has been sued for 11 BILLION dollars for fraud from the government going back years. University of Phoenix has been accused of serious allegations too. Oh, ITT... yep. The current CEO of EDMC has ZERO education experience. Doesn't that seem like a "for profit" problem? I'm not saying that education in the US is not in a crisis but the abuses of the for-profit industry is blatant. The loans! No one who has worked as an educator at an EDMC school can say that their program is excellent and worthy of the price tag.

Not that I'm against this but the issue is much bigger than for-profit. Non-profits are making a ton of money off student ignorance as well. Students are very rarely warned of the debt, told to borrow responsibly, told the job market is bad, told the school won't help you find a job beyond min wage, etc. this is nation wide at nearly all colleges. The focus on only for-profits is very misguided.

Glad you're paying attention!

The Art Institute open house protest date is November 12th. Pittsburgh schedule is here: http://www.aiopen.com/pittsburgh/

The Million Student March is November 21st.

Best to look up your local scheduled event times for both.

Have a GREAT weekend!

I agree. We need to know the date. Ideally the protests will occur during open house so prospective students can be saved from enrolling.

Current Faculty and former Faculty will be protesting as well from what I've heard.
