IRVINE IS TOAST!

HGST is up north

SanDisk is up north

Irvine is no longer needed because HDD is dead

Already know my name is up before August because my direct report no longer cares about anything

No tears here...it was a good run and business is business

Blessings and Prays to the Husbands, Wife's and Children of the Irvine Teams.

And here we go again, and it really sucks when you have a spineless managedr. At the the last layoff "I haven't heard anything about a layoff". 10 minutes later he dissapears and other managers walk his employees out.

I worked at the HGST/WD site at Yerba Buena Road and the 7 guys that reported to my manager were laid off so thats 100% in my department. No managers in my area were let go. Pretty sad when you feel like your management team didn't even try and fight for you. Just fall in line and accept the change. Customers are going to suffer big time as the legacy WD side had No Server drives and now they will be left to pick up the pieces and support all the customers out there. I had several issue I was owrking with customers on and there was No cross over just today is your last day. That's it. Pretty heart less and I gues to be expected as that is the new WD way.

Good luck for all of you from overseas. WD was a family a few years ago. Missing my collegues and that familiar spirit we once had. Being laid off some month ago like a criminal after serving WD many years of my life.

You can Judge from how managers and admins treat you. If your job is shared by someone all of a sudden, responsibility you were given moved elsewhere, manager doesn't contact you or doesn't reply to email or phone call, your gut tells you things are loose and quite, then your name is ticked off. Trust your gut feeling and act, fast, furious and ferocious.

You saw > 1k engineers been laid off? Where did you see that happening? In Irvine, I have only found out a few engineers (you can count with one hand) to walked way on 4/14 in my cubicle area.

It just happened in the past two days.

Engineers alone, more than 1000 were chopped from what I saw.

We will find out the answer on tomorrow (2/11). But I also heard it starts from top tier, so the massive layoffs won't happen until Mar. or April.

Rumors are rampant that there will be a mid-Feb layoff for both WD and HGST. No info on SanDisk, but there are also rumors that WD is pushing for the SanDisk thing to happen, so I'd guess that they'll be impacted too.

What about the PAPPI values we were once asked to follow? Now we have to follow rumours going around to investigate whether your collegue is still employeed at WD?? SAD!

Agree with above statement. Beginning of next year Irvine is going to be decimated. You don't need two of everything. Keep the team that is more profitable. HGST has engineers with more experience because WD let go a lot of experienced engineers. Start working on your backup plan now.

Hi, I'm a former WD employee who lives in Irvine. I don't have any solid information. But the company keeps saying that the integration with HGST will save hundreds of millions of dollars in OpEx every year. The main way that can happen is a very big reduction in workforce. Wall Street is now expecting that reduction in OpEx. WD Irvine is the home to the least profitable part of WD - the consumer HDD's. The profitable stuff is up in the Bay Area. My sense - and I could be wrong but don't think I am - is the WD Irvine will take significant job cuts in 2016. Probably much more than the little cuts that happened in 2015. Makes me sad, because WD is a great contributor to our community.
