Has anybody heard of Tuboscope employees getting laid off?

Ive worked for Tuboscope back in the late 80s/90s for 6 yrs and till this day I still follow 4 goals my Manager Tim Tyler gave us.. Best job I had. Tuboscope is great company to work for and they always look out for there employees.
Tuboscope in the great white north has been hit HARD, especially in Alberta. Drilling activity at levels not seen since the 80"s. We also have to deal with the seasonal downturn known as spring break up. In over 25 years with the company, I have never seen it this bad.
Management, has done a good job of trying to keep its employees, but layoffs happened. We were on a work sharing program until it ran out, and then another round of layoffs. It wasn't long before the rest of us that are left got called into a meeting with a senior manager and H.R. rep. It was explained that we were to be temporary laid off in groups for 56 days. Benefits are still going to be covered. If it does not improve in that time, and you don't get called back, then I believe its the final layoff. [Not sure].
Kudos to Management for the efforts in trying to keep the lights on.
I hope this turns around soon for ALL us Tuboscopers out there.
Tuboscope on WLY was shut down because they opened a new coating plant on Sheldon Rd and moved everyone over there. This has been in the making for the last 3-4 years, way before oil prices fell.
Tuboscope on WLY was shut down completely. Use to be busy, cars and commercial trucks in and out of there daily. You could see all the material and heavy equipment outside and workers working. Everyone and all of the material and equipment is gone. Not a single scrap left. No workers. No cars or trucks. Gates have been locked for months now. It's a total dead zone.
why layoffs? we are feeding all rest of NOV with our profit
I know there were a few layoffs at Tuboscope Germany
Compared to the rest of NOV, I think Tuboscope is still doing somewhat ok for the market were dealing with
Tuboscope runs a different philosophy about layoffs. It is up to the division not corporate mandate. So as long as your division is keeping it in the black, we will survive!
