I may be interviewing very soon for a position in the IT department - do you know if they will be laying people off? I'd hate to join Gulfstream, live my current job and be laid off immediately.

Man, I'm glad I found this thread.
So, someone give me the real skinny. I just got offered a position with a Sub Contractor which will be working onsite with HCL at Gulfstream. I used to work for IT (remote) when CSC had the contract. I don't want to pack my bags and go to Savannah and then find out that I'm going to be treated like a third class contractor and regret it, or find that the place is such disarray that I'm going to regret it, I've got other offers I can consider. Input would be appreciated.

I work in IT there- Don't do it. The single most inept organization I have ever seen - The stories I could tell you of colossal infrastructure and data center f---s would make you cry with laughter They hire "experts" in IT and then ignore their experience, instead relying on that of contractors and HCL. HCL OWNS and RUNS Gulfstream - Whatever they want, whatever they need at whatever cost. I would work at Wendy's before I would go back there. Seriously, don't waste your time.
@EL411ge-1gog is CORRECT. I've spend good chunk of time in IT and my suggestion to you is to go somewhere where you'll be respected as a professional
Yes. IT is included in the layoffs. As others recommended, determine if the position you are interviewing for will be a direct position, contract position or employment with HCL. There's a distinct difference in treatment of the three classes.
IT is in disarray and is a very toxic environment. If you don't have a compelling reason to take an IT job in Savannah then stay in your current job. Or seek a position with a company that takes IT seriously and treats its workers as professionals instead of pawns to be sacrificed.
OK, just for the record, HCL had no layoffs reported here: &hcl
You are probably being recruited as part of HCL, I know for sure they are adding headcount. I'd be careful there, I am sure they will be laying off people too
Most of IT is not part of Gulfstream and so far has been uneffected. I would find out if the job is for Gulfstream or HCL.
the departments not directly involved in aircraft maintenance are being hit harder than others, however most of the layoffs are from the contract worker pool, Source: current Gulfstream Employee.
Not if you are Indian
