Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

BYE BYE SPLS

Now that we know the merger will not happen. Both companies will move quickly to close all the stores they wanted to close before the merger was considered. All these stores were ALREADY listed in Framingham and maybe a few more added as sales have declined ..... Bye Bye... Oh and the stock Bye Bye, and Staples.com JOKE Bye Bye as well.

Here is the NEW plan. If you are in a store under 5mil... you have at best maybe one and one half years left.

They will also aggressively push all highly compensated management regardless of store volume to quit and NOW we know they will fire you no matter what you do in terms of performance. The PIP is now only a notice, not a chance to correct. They WON"T offer any more severance and they will fight paying you unemployment.

In short the LONG KNIVES ARE OUT, and hoping for the best has ceased to exist.

Look, these guys are truly the scum of the corporate world and ALL scruples they ever pretended to have, have long since been left behind... They also have little hope of being hired because of their low life behavior so THEY have nothing to lose in going for the biggest golden parachute they can get. Simply stated, no matter what level you are in the Staples organization they care S#!T about you, your job, your family or your future.... You can take these words to the bank!

O liked to pick out folk in general meetings when question and answer were encouraged. Some really dumb questions were always forthcoming, but he always gave a pass to some of the dumbest from his bro DM. Yet ripped others for much less idiotic questions. It did not go unnoticed. Oh,and no one volunteered questions after the first experience with this ass.

"Steve was not, in final analysis a bad guy" Rumor has it that he was shown the door for "suggesting" to Otis that he should adopt a less abusive tone when talking to subordinates.

"O is simply an angry racist fool" Is there a history of O treating people of different ethnic backgrounds differently? Just curious because I had him in my store last year and his ripped my GM a new one over how O/S looked and said electronics looked good. In reality, O/S was full and neat. He did not like where the Paper Chase / Cynthia Rawley fixture was moved, but it was exactly where it was called for. Electronics was a mess, several laptops not on display, ink not full (but these were true out of stocks)

none of the printer displays worked, etc. NOTHING was said about that. But the SM is A/A and the GM and I are white so we got the ass thrashing.

Yes I really believe the merger will not happen, BUT HERE IS THE THING... It does not matter. The only difference in store closings will be in a relatively few locations where both companies own locations in relative proximity. The total net stores closing DOES NOT CHANGE with or without the merger.... hope that helps...

It will be amusing to watch all these high and mighty DMs and RVPs start to fall. They think playing tough and getting rid of higher paid managers will preserve their jobs. Only a few had the nerve to stand up and say "screw this" when Servello told them he wanted certain managers on PiPs, not for performance , but for how much they made. This fool puts a GM making $85k in a tier 4 store, then complains said GM is in a T4 making that much. Then has him fired for entering the building, alone, 5 minutes opening time, because the associate scheduled to open with the GM called out. Of course LP "happened" to be in the lot. So instead of offering to go in with the GM so they he wouldn't be alone, LP waits and then "Gotcha!" 5 brownie points from Vinnie for catching the GM on a minor infraction.

All the guy wanted to do was put the tills out before customers were at the door. If he had opened late, they would have nailed him for that, so either way he was screwed.

One more for tonight, because this is a special night after all.

I remember a conversation in private with Steve. It was brief and unofficial. I'm sure he will have no memory of it. After wishing that he could get rid of me for years via his minions, and having all efforts fail, in frustration he gave me the "seat on the bus" discussion. I watched from inside the company as Steve's seat was removed from the bus years later, my seat still comfy. The quality folk he had helped already had left the company. Well except for "Y". She had left but was never quality. Most of the minions he employed also moved on or gave up. I sit here tonight laughing at them all and Watching From Afar. Steve was not, in final analysis a bad guy. He just failed to ascend ahead of the bad/stupid guys. "D" is an ignorant tool. "O" is simply an angry racist fool. "R" has long since checked out.

I almost forgot a short note to my DM and RVP friends. REALLY? You are not smart enough to figure this out?

ARE YOU SO GOOD you will be one of the ten DM's left after this is all over? Even then the only chance of promotion will be someone above you FOUND a real company and quit. Then you can take their job for 6 months until that's eliminated too. You will receive the same lovely treatment you are currently meting out to your own Store Management teams....

And here is the really scary thought! Bricks and mortar BIG BOX is doomed. Regardless of your age, you have skills that have no use in the new retail world... BYE BYE
