Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

How can "WE" do this?????

Hmmm - How can "We" do this if we've been replaced with robotic h1B's and new hires? I was released this month and was VERY relieved because I'd been under assault by my younger team members for several years. There wasn't anyone else in my area let-go just the "OLD" guy. I wish all the older folks, that are left, the fair treatment and dignified respect they deserve.

It really is a 1 dog - 1 bone cut throat environment that involves constant fighting. You can't talk to anyone without the fear that what you say will be mis-construed. It really is a totally unproductive situation. It took all that I had to bite my lip and suck-up to these ruthless minions. They can gladly remain working for a business that will not exist in the long term. The executives like to refer to the emerging wireless only business as the next Google - Ha, Ha, Ha - I don't think so ===> but maybe the next thing Google buys at a fire sale.

I'm glad that you got burned. My guess is that your co-workers were as well. You and people like 3W6 are part of the reason that Verizon has become so intolerable to common sense and American ideals.

RIF is a positive thing - if it's the "Reading Is Fundamental" RIF that 3W6 was referring to (check the link). This is a great example of how conversations go these days. We don't take the time to understand what was said because we're too busy writing a nasty reply.

McAdam is a terrible CEO, the company takes in billions of dollars in profits, he cuts the workforce over and over and yet, he can't get the stock over $50 a share. I don't think he understands that Wall Street rewards 'growing' companies. His ideas fail epically, from The Redbox disaster to this new foray, Go90 that has been welcomed with apathy at best. He has no vision, he is a follower, just look at the new logo, really, pay a design company to change to a lower case font and smaller check?(which is what he wants to give everyone, a smaller check)

I was lucky, I took management in the late 90's and I would've gotten screwed in the first pension issue. I fought to get my Union job back and just retired with an offer after 36 years. Verizon doesn't want their employees to move up, they punish you if you try, and their best and most experienced employees stay stagnant. This is just a deplorable business model.

Got some news for you, 3w6, there was a time not long ago when young employees learned and grew intellectually by listening to the older and more experienced employees. But, no, you're above all that. You're special. You deserve a trophy.

To 3W6,

I hope that you never have the responsibility of raising a family and the need of stability in your life.

I'm all for hiring young people and allowing them the ability to learn a profession and develop skills, that is what I did. However, I used those skills to the best of my ability to help the company grow and be one of the top companies in the world.

I have young folks asking me what kind of future they have at Verizon. They fear they might lose their job everyday. They complain about the morale of the work group since they see GOOD people being let go around them and are asked to take up the slack.

It's a shame, I used to be able to tell them they had a future at Verizon.

Being that the first responders link goes to a Reading Is Fundamental site (RIF), the post is obviously tongue in cheek.

Relax, old timer. This RIF thing seems a positive, rather than the negative it's being portrayed to be. It gives the young ones a chance to learn, grow intellectually, and become well grounded. See for yourself, before you go off the deep end. http://www.rif.org
