2 weeks notice

They need to get rid of the foreigns. Send them back to their original bases. Instead of laying off a US citizen that cost slb $50K to $80K a year including benefits. Send home that mng manager that has housing allowance + family plan tickets round trip+ Quarterly and yearly bonus + slb pays his kids to go to private school...minimum of $300K or per year etc to name a few.

Let's be honest with our selves for once.

I am a tech from NGC and I can't wait to put my two weeks notice on that $@@!# desk. Many techs waiting to leave also. Only a matter of time.

We never needed them in the first place. It's a big consulting scheme where the biggest HB1 holders get commissioned off of each one they place...so for each American head that gets cut, the difference in salary between them goes primarily to the consulting firm. The fat guys at the top make loads of money by displacing Americans with robotic foreign talent. Only those in charge of the budget can put a stop to it. Cut your losses in the same year and don't be afraid that you already invested. Send em home and start fresh with American talent that was already here regardless of age or creed.

First of all, schlumberger is originally a French company so it's kind of funny that you're telling 'foreigns' to go home. Secondly, I'm one of those foreign scientists you're referring to. I can assure you my parents didn't bribe someone with donkeys to get me this job. I worked hard in highschool and luckily, university is free in my country despite the fact that it's a much poorer country than the US. Would you like free university education for your kids so they can get a leg up? Vote for Bernie Sanders then. I'm gonna bet you're a Trump supporter though. It's kind of sad that you feel like you can't compete against me - you were born in the richest country in the world and English is your first language. English is my second language. On top of that, I went completely deaf in my twenties due to meningitis. Despite the obstacles I faced, working hard in university earned me a scholarship to do a phd. And now, 15 years later here I am in your country on a H1B. I'm an expert in my field and have over 40 papers published in scientific journals. Tell me again I don't deserve this job. I feel sorry for you because you're wasting your energy being angry towards the wrong people. How about questioning why you can't compete against a foreigner from an impoverished third world country like mine? How about asking your government why they aren't giving American kids the solid foundation in STEM subjects that would enable them to compete against people like me? Instead you are all too busy believing the lies that Donald Trump and his like are spinning to make sure that they stay in the top 1% and get to feed off the lifeblood of ordinary Americans like you.

If this is true, then the proportions of races and national origins in the field of O&G would be equal to the ratios or per cent-wise prescribed by the US DOL but it is not. Now that bisexulas transsexulas, gays, Middle East wars veterans, obese etc. almost complete this picture, you would have a better picture but this is not not what happening in the field of O&G. Where do see gays working for SLB except some SVPs and perhaps the president? Who gives a shit about war veterans when there is guy somewhere in Bombay whose dad had sold a 100 donkeys and 50 goats to bribe one of these SVPs for the son to become a senior science advisor or a fellow? All this a BS.

To 185218, you may be educated but you have no idea about contracts in foreign countries. The contracting country determines the percentage of nationals to be employed for the contract. The remainder is made up to foreigners. Many races are kept apart for several reasons. If you have not experience d this I doubt you have been in the field.

As someone who is not affiliated with this company, but who is a tax paying US citizen I would rather have companies be forced to fire a visa holder who would then be deported before firing a US citizen or permanent resident who would then collect government welfare. This is simple cost cutting math, not xenophobia. Very similar to the calculations that companies use when deciding who stays and who gets laid off.

to everyone hating on the foreigners - in a messed up part of the US immigration law, it is more difficult to fire an H1B visa holder than it is a US citizen. The increased costs of sponsoring the visa have already been paid. If they fire them they need to give advanced notice to the US customs and immigration office, provide for immediate transport home, due to the agreement the company takes over their apartment lease or home sale. Also the USCIS guides employers to give as much advanced notice of termination as possible as the visa holder loses the legal right to be in the USA once terminated.

It wouldn't surprise me one bit if they avoid firing these people just because it is more difficult than firing americans.

Concur. Get rid of the foreign management first, they are needed here as a fifth leg for a dog. The IT guys can do this job from their countries. My experience in the uS was such that they do get rid of the US citizens first and keep all these HB1 visa holders for years, perhaps for a fee of $10-15K as was indicated by several sources before on this site. Check on these freaks in Houston.
