Thread regarding Advance Auto Parts Inc. layoffs

MASS removal of employees nationwide

So, in the name of, "the company is not profiting enough, based on competitors like Oreilly and AutoZone" they removed and realigned stores based on hours. This caused Assistant Managers to be demoted with a pay cut or take a 2 week severence and go for unemployment. Then, if they chose to step down, it could have forced a "parts Pro to me moved or left go as well. This was across the country. A meeting was held on a Thursday before this took place. 1st Wave of moves came on Oct 19th, 2015. The 2nd wave occured Tuesday or Wednesday. Many of these employees were above the "wage cap" they instilled just over a year ago. Of course payroll is always the major cost, but to cut the knowledge team portion of your staffing is insane and it sure wont help customers coming in to get advise from computer clerks that have no experience and make only 8 to 8.50 per hour. If you want the knowledge in the stores as your advertise, you need to PAY FOR that knowledge. It will be interesting indeed to see how this all works out for this company in a year or so. Sure, at 1st, the higher profits will bring in higher stock, but a the expense of your customers. After the initial hit of profit, watch the customers move where they can get experienced knowledge that competitors actually do pay for. Where will the fat cats be sitting then. I have just seen the job I loved, go down the drain. When they bought out Carquest, they gained too many. They say they are number 1 because of size, they have now doomed themselves to ever achieve that. Do what the number 1 companies do, and then maybe, you too will be a true number 1. I'll be watching from the sidlines now and working for the competition

you said it perfectly!!!!! Financial advice from a cook. How on Gods green earth can a man or woman, who has knowledge of automotive parts even begin to keep a household or raise a family on 12.00 an hour, assuming they have a parts pro position. PATHETIC. So mister Maserati driver Tom Greco can keep wages as he has, but the people running the show and making things truly happen, and bring their ideas to life in the stores, sitting behind their desks staring at numbers, and bowing before the Stock holders A--"es will loss horribly. They sure don't care. I don't care what anyone earns in the top, as long as fair wages and above freaking poverty earnings so people can live and have a TRUE CARREER and have the knowledge the customers needs. Maybe if the worker bees felt appreciated and cared about, would truly give a crap that this company doesn't fail. Without workers bees that care, the company will FAIL and I hope to crap these dumb-jerks find that out before it is too late!!!! If it does get to be to late, I hope they loose their a__ in the markets. They can go work for less then 60 k a year or less.

2017 and I'm next because I make too much per hour. Cut the knowledge equals lost sales. I'm not a parts Superman by any means but to have a GM who can't find a trailer bearing running a parts store is like a cook offering to give you finiancial advise.

Very well said, the same thing has happened in our store, cutting us down to nothing. Nobody wants to work for a company that cuts you all the time. What's their slogan sell more parts have more fun HA HA It's just not fun anymore!
