Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

HP to lay off 800 in SD, Qualcomm 4700, total 5500. 50% owned home, so approx 2600 homes for sale in 3 months.

With all the layoff? What is the justification for more H-1Bs?

Qualcomm and HP is not everything. How do you come up with 5* each employee lost calculation? Come out of your IT shell you guys. There are people who do lot of other things and have nothing to do with QC and HP. SD is not technology its biotech. The numbers are bullshit. Nothing is going to effect otherwise growing economy. If inventory increases non san diegans will buy. People living in far away suburbs will move to San Diego. No change in home prices, Simple as that.

Not enough jobs in SD. No jobs for semiconductor people in SD. If you are normal middle class, you have to work and to work you move.

Not sure if 2500? plus 1000 from HP. Both will lay off consultants (maybe another 1000 or 2000?). Plus thousands in support like construction, outsourced services, food service, hotel, airport. Probably 5 other jobs lost at other companies for every Qcom or HP job. Total hit might be 5*5000=25,000 laid off. Half don't have houses. Some others might be super rich and retire. Still, as the other guy said it will be a hit to the SD economy.

I do not need to sell my house but I am thinking about medical expenses and my son's education.

OP - you are a simpleton. Getting layed off is not an end all. People find other jobs and move on. Get a life you Moron.

QCOM 4700 should be globally, not only in SD.

Very few to sell before school year is over. The market will welcome the inventory and prices will increase at a slower pace.

There were more than 4000 IT job postings in San Diego and same goes management jobs. The home prices will nothing but go up, at least until 2018 after which you can expect a bubble.

Why do you think that everybody who loses job has to sell his or her house? Employees who worked long time for these companies have made enough money to retire early and still afford house.
