Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

Group Manager to Group Engineering Manager and Sr. Delivery Manager to Engineering Manager

With the recent fiasco of title changes, for all the Group Managers in TTS , title changed as Group "Engineering" Manager. For some of the Sr. Delivery Managers the title changed as "Engineering" Manager. Some (Not all) of these guys dont know anything about "Engineering" and were in project management track for years. I hate to see they get "Engineering" titles. We always compare ourself to technology companies like Amazon, Netflix,Spotify,Google etc and it is next to impossible for these guys to become engineering managers there..

Really feeling sad !!

Sir.on paper all the responsibility is with engineering manager. Real work is done by tech folks. Just for managing talent TI leadership created this layer. No use of complaining.. Let us go out of TI. This is known issue at TI about fake hierarchy. These people do not allow the talent to grow. Because they can not survive any where....exact statement from an SGM at TI

What's the use of transformation ..just renaming delivery managers to engineering managers is not transformation. TI leadership creating and continuing useless layers. All the work done by technical folks and these useless 'engineering managers' take credit for it. This is the best example of malignant / inefficient / fraud TI leadership - when given power how they misuse and safe guard useless delivery Managers. They screw tech folks get the information and write emails. It's going to get worse if HQ continue to relay on TI leadership.

Frustrated technical TI member

They are throwing the term engineer around way too much. Everyone is an engineer now and 50% of them actually have an engineering skill set while the rest do not. Really takes away the prowess being an engineer used to have.

Nice way to ask for respect but not give respect in return, e.g. the 'code jockey' remark.

A profession is only as respectable as the people you hire.

Anonymous153471 - There is no question about Project Management being respected profession. Yes. It is. Having said that, Engineering Manager indicates somebody who has very strong technology background and who can understand end-end architecture, give technical direction to the team. I agree with OP. I did not like the idea of making Project managers as Engineering Managers

Folks who were hired as "people managers " with no technical and people management skills are now "Engineering Managers" and the ones who were hired as technical architects are "Engineers" !!!! This is the new Target for you !

Project manager is a proud, respected profession. We are engineers as much as the code jockeys.
