Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Still no answer why women are discriminated at QC! the goal is to reduce even more the, already, disappearing women in the ranks.

How many women in management? 1, 2 % at most?

is it related on how the Indians see the role of a woman in society?

Why Ms. Executive HR VP doesn't do anything to change this situation?

While google, apple , strive for bringing more, women our VP HR doesn't give a crap!

Blacks? Hispanics? probably the same. It is the QC way!

I wanted to repost "Any time a woman stands up for herself against discrimination, HR takes actions to bury her career. By discrediting the woman, HR protects the company from legitimate discrimination claims"....

This is just so true.... HR needs to look at the complaints officially filed in the last 5-10years... and will find how bad the results have been, and how they covered up the manager who has risen to VP and higher to only fall flat on their face now. They need to advocate ZERO tolerance to this kind of crap.. Specially when provided with enough and solid documentation of the issue being reported.

153620: Silly female! At QCOM, cronyism = merit w/r/t earning bonuses. Women don't get invited to join the little "clubs" unless they sleep their way to the top or give blowjobs.

Discrimination against women is deeply embedded in Qualcomm culture, and it has nothing to do with ethnic diversity of the rank and file. It comes from the top down, and it's perpetrated by MEN

QC is racist and discriminatory but better to move on to a better company. You can spend your whole life trying to be right when it would be much easier to find a better opportunity where you are happy. Eventually the general public will learn about QC's shameful practices and they will sink deeper into irrelevance.

OP somewhat hit the nail on this one...My guess is it is due to the culture.. As OP put it..."related on how the Indians see the role of a woman in society".. And we all know what culture is dominated in Q. This would be reduced tremendously with more diverse culture... Not sure complaining would help with Q HR....

i know, in the middle of all that, we all have problems, but if you have a wife, daughter, niece, she will be facing the same problem. Lots of our relatives worked really hard to make this country great. We can't let the obscurantist cultures take the country.

Write, call, even if anonymously to UT, KPBS, reader , whatever, don't let our country loose all the gains we made in the past.

We know Michelle, and the other executive managers don't want to do do anything, please help while we can.

thank you!

Good speech ! The reason why QC cannot hire more women because the mgmt is filled with non-American whose still live in 'Mad men' era in their origin country thinking women are subject to men's order. When women voiced their opinion, their review said they 'whine' too much. When women worked hard , their review said they 'bottle up'/anti-social/aggressive. That is why they don't get promoted.

And good luck with mat leave. You will find out men in that company will tell you : I am afraid to take longer parternity leave worrying how others look at me as weak , non career focus person and that will affect my review. You women can take as long as you want and nobody will blame you !

So, they really assume normal people like us would have parent from Far East staying at our home for half a year doing babysitting ?

@3611... You start by saying "its not so much that they are discriminated against"... And the rest totally contrast cts and supports the fact that women are discriminated...ALL of your point (weak justifications for vast ng women aside) is prooving that women are discriminated... Please read your own message and analyse what your saying is utter nonsense and justifications to castevwomen aside in Q.

"It's not so much that they are discriminated against, it's that men are giving higher priority for bonuses and promotions." That's the definition of discrimination. Women are discriminated against at Qualcomm because promotions and raises are based on male cronyism, not merit. Women who are promoted to VP levels know that there is only room for a few token women at the top, so they do not always support career development for other women. The ones that ARE supportive of other women, for example, Peggy Johnson, are run out. Qualcomm has a horrible track record when it comes to discrimination. On this issue alone, they deserve what they get.

"In 1987, some 37 percent of the graduating computer-science class was female. But, because of the unfair hurdles they face, women are getting discouraged from studying computer science, and the percentage had dropped to 18 percent by 2012."\

THANK YOU MICHELLE! your efforts are paying off!

Google has launched an effort to make sure it hires and promotes enough women, reports the New York Times's Claire Cain Miller.

Because its Google, the company's first step was to analyze data about its own HR practices.

Can you imagine a similar effort at QC? LOL!
