@152965: Now, who is getting bent out of shape? Hint, look in the mirror. You are the real financial genius, if you invested in Gopro a month ago. Maybe that is the root of the anger. Realizing Gopro is not a good long term prospect helps someone to make a better career decision. Gopro is disintegrating like QC, and it is a company to avoid.

Anonymous152963. So wise person, why aren't you financially retired yet... Oh wait... BTW I didn't say an eventual small company might end up that way..but I don't get the idiocrasy of a decision between a job that.might last 2 years. Versus no job. Clearly you aren't an engineer or anyone logical for that matter.

@152950: it is not a matter of having a financial wisdom but a pair eyes to observe. A 10% reduction in QC revenue triggered a 15% RIF. And, we all know it not going to stop here. Splitting QCT is likely, and that chip business is worth only about a third of QC value today, while QTL is worth about 2/3. Gopro has had a great growth story, but that growth has slowed down and coming to a stop. Stock price is the leading indicator of the company future. It was said that QC would lay off 5000 people, and it sounded so ridiculous. Now, Gopro is the next to follow QC footstep. Why? The typical tech cycle; first, grow and hire; second, slowdown and reduce cost; finally, move operation offshore. QC is at stage two, Gopro is about to enter stage two.

Some of you folks are so frickin arrogant that you think you are so much smarter than everyone else? And yet you complain about the same things everyone else complains about. So I am just curious how well your "wisdom" has worked out for you financially thus far????

Anonymous152945. In the.meantime if you were to get hired at either place (which I doubt you would) it still beats have no job. What you think the market will do is irrelevant. Just like what you think the real estate market will do is irrelevant. You really don't know what will happen, and the longer you are hell bent in thinking you are smarter than the market, you learn soon enough you aren't. If you were, I suspect financially you would have already been able to capitalize.on your guru instincts and fundamental expertise in understanding how every market and business to bullshit about works. But let me.guess.. Your wisdom hasnt beared any meaningful financial windfalls for you has it? Yeah I thought so...

Gopro has two problems: one, market for “a camera on a stick” has saturated; two, consumer products are facing a global slowdown, just like cell phones, but at a much fast pace. It is a vicious cycle of global slowdown reducing consumption of non-essential products, and that reduces general consumption, and so on. Gopro stock value has dropped 50% this year. It is taking a queue from QC and layoffs will soon be the trick to store investor confidence.

Oh. And there are some Q colleagues at both companies. So provided you aren't a real asshole in real life, you probably have a pretty good chance to find a job. And if you are a known asshole in real life, like you are an asshole on this section, well then that sounds like a personal problem. And if you aren't even an engineer but just a min wage troll, lol. Keep flipping that burger.

First of all. This recruiter isn't a recruiter because I have colleagues working at both companies and there is a hiring frenzy. One is relocating to a larger facility. So I don't know where he pulled his layoff bullshit out of his ass. Maybe they weren't interested in him or maybe he isn't even an engineer and just a bitter loser (many apparently troll this section. I am not sure why) second, while any small company's future is uncertain, a buyout isn't necessarily a bad thing financially. And with brands like that, someone will eventually buy the company if not.just for the brand name. So you figure if you get 2years out of these companies, its not a bad deal. Plus, the software community is so small in SD, that once you are into this right circle of peers, you can end up following them to the next startup, where hiring is always mostly by referrals and not throught cold call recruiting done my HR. I don't understand why so many bent out of shape non engineers always keep looking at the doom and gloom. Its like a bunch of people whining about wealth inequality because they are stuck.in a minimum wage job, but don't do anything about it to get out

.. On the positive note, those that insist on being so frickin pessimistic on everything certainly won't be able to find a better opportunity, so that means the rest of you that want something better have a much better chance versus all the loser quitters that dimiss things even before trying. Personally, before being an ass about something, I would first get it before making judgement calls. Its like the same losers that call Ferraris shitty cars, while only being able to drive a pos Pontiac Aztek. You got nothing to loseEverything to gain. These unemployable losers just want you to give up and fail so it makes their own loser financial state more easily swallowable. In life, you want to avoid these people like the plague. Which probably explains why these losers end up being both loners and unemployable

all of these companies have no realistic long term sustainability but hope to be bought out by google, apple, ect. the problem is 99% will NOT be acquired which means they have a very limited shelf life. consumer electronics is a bad place to position yourself unless you plan on moving to asia at some point. look for gov and defense industries if you want to have a job 3 yrs from now. just my opinion as a former QCer.
