Frequent VSPs have been very bad for morale and only the valuable, high performing employees accept the package. Not sure why the Intel execs think these VSPs are a good idea versus just having one layoff and moving on.

VSP is pretty much a company's cowardly way of getting people to leave instead of forced layoffs. But only good, talented people accept the package and Intel is stuck with underperformers who are just trying to cruise and have no other options. Nice policy.
I have never understood VSP. Basically it signals: "we don't care who the f*** you are. You can be a genius for all we care we just want you out of here."
I don't think that's the way forward.
Yes, VSP is great for folks with options. Deadwood folks will never consider it, even with over 6 months severance. Those are the ones Intel cannot get rid of.
I love the VSP, I waited for a whole year and finally got one so I could move on to new opportunities outside of Intel....
I agree. VSPs has happened a few times a year and has only accounted for ~3% headcount reduction. One-time layoff to cut 10% would have been more preferable.
