Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

HR change to vacation policy - starting 2016 no longer get paid "earned" vacation hours if you quit / get fired.

Anyone else hear about this? Did some research and it appears at first glance to be illegal in 24 states to not pay earned vacation at end of employment. Imagine there is a loople somewhere....

Target Su-ks! Try to work you in the ground and not give you anything but a hard time, not fair that they do not have to pay out what their employees earned for themselves.. They su-k...Period!

California Labor Law mandates that you get paid for accrued vacation hours and accrued personal hours upon termination of employment regardless of whether it is for resignation or for cause. You don't get paid for sick hours unless you have a contractual agreement in writing from your employer.

I worked for Target for over 16 years in almost all departments and especially in HR. I never heard of or remembered any talk about not paying terminated team members for accrued vacation hours. When I called the HROC, they told me because I lived in Kansas, I was not eligible for this vacation pay. Looking closer, it is a state law that required Target to pay earned vacation upon termination by individual state laws. For a global company, it is disrespectful and discriminatory. I will do my legal best to make sure other team members know this and try to persuade corporate Target to override their position. Thank you to all that have read this and I will keep you posted.

Well i recently got wrongfully terminated due to retaliation from management at out store. I was not paid for my vacation hours accrued. I live in Texas. I called the hr line and was told that there was mass communication last year 2016 that Target no longer pays for vacation when we quit or get termed. My take is that this company is loosing so much money that they are robbing the team members and myself of the vacation hours that we earned.

California labor laws, from what I recall, are way more employee friendly

Anonymous150615: I've worked in both of these states and others with Target over the years and I can tell you that Target's policy on many benefits change by locale.

Target is a national company and would probably be in violation in certain parts of the country - TMs in California and New York (states with strict labor laws) care to weigh in? Do they have the same policy for you or will you still get paid unpaid vacation hours at end of employment?

Thankfully I heard the personal holiday rule at Target so it's always good to use those up first

Don't you wish you lived/worked in one of the states that has that ERISA law? Use it or lose it.

Many companies don't pay out vacation. Also what for language that it is no longer vacation but personal time off or excused absence. This is the legal aspect
