Dislocated Worker Program: Over 625 of your former co-workers have taken advantage of our free services

Minnesota Job Partners holds a grant to help those impacted by the recent layoffs at Target in Minnesota.

Over 625 former Target employees have enrolled in our Dislocated Worker Program, and over 55% have participated in training funded through their program participation.

For those who have exited our program into employment, the average wage at enrollment vs. the average wage at exit is over 100%. This means our participants are earning more in their new jobs than they were making at Target!*

Job Partners employs 14 career counselors to assist each participant through the transition process. Together with your counselor, you will determine your employment goal and outline the action steps it will take to get you there. We support you with continued career counseling, expert résumé development, current job search workshops, professional LinkedIn head shots, exclusive job leads, financial assistance for those in need, and funding for training.

The Dislocated Worker Program is free to you, funded through a small percentage of the unemployment fund. These benefits are in addition to the benefits you are receiving through Right Management.

Comments from former Target participants:

"Every once in a while we happen upon people who are willing to go the extra mile without expectations of the same in return. You were truly both a blessing in disguise and an inspiration!! Thank you for the extra efforts you put forth in getting both my CISSP & CISA trainings and exams approved."

Regarding an onsite PMP Exam prep course MJP offered:

"I thought I would send a quick note to say thank you for your help getting the PMP Prep class approved and scheduled! Having the class right in the office was great! The location was nice and central and the facility worked out very well (free parking was also a +). Thank you for serving lunch each day too. It was a nice touch that allowed us to build connections as a group and it was also great due to the limited income situation we’re all in. Christine was also an excellent instructor- she kept the class very engaging and brought great real-word experience into the course! Thanks for your help in making it a great experience!"

"I want to thank you and the Job Partners team for all of the support that you have given all of us in this transition. . . . The Job Partners team knows what they are doing and come across as having a vested interest in us!"

I wasn't too impressed. The only advice I received was nothing I didn't already know. I was told to network as much as possible because my role at Target was unique and I didn't have an MBA on my resume. Consider going back to school, yadda yadda yadda.. Nothing to help me examine my options. Then I was told to be patient in working with my counselor because of the volume of people they were serving, which meant I got a "how's it going?" email once a month.

While it is true that Jobpartners offers some benefits, it all depends on the counselor you get. I went through 2 counselors. The 1st one tried to convince me to go back to school full time, take unemployment and stay out of the work force for a year. This was exactly the opposite of the help I was looking for from Jobpartners. My 2nd counselor was reluctantly able to help me. I was asking for assistance to prep for 2 professional certificates but she made me jump through several hurdles and write up and then came back and said I only could apply for 1 or the other and the state wouldn't support the 2nd. Others I have spoken with had really good and supportive coaches, make sure you get the right one and if not, ask for a different one.

Jess's note and claims are credible. I achieved my CIA audit certification with all the support I could have asked for. Great people that care about others who have been through such a tough time. They acknowledge how people feel in the moment and help guide you to your future, a future that many are finding much more rewarding than their recent one. I'm a big believer that people who work hard and are good to others will be fine. Thank you MN job works!!
